A380 in Y - best seats (80A/80K/71D/50C etc.)

Whoa, 66G just opened up for me for tomorrow, so I selected it.

Over the last week, I have never seen the seat selectable until today, and even then the colour of the seat was white and not red. I did call the WP call centre yesterday and asked if they could select 66G for me, but they only offered to put me through to a call centre in Brisbane to process payment for the exit row seat.

Flight isn't until 15:30 tomorrow. I checked last night, still wasn't selectable, so maybe it was T-40 or something like that?

But yes, if I wanted to pay for it, I could of had it earlier.

I have it on my least as Plan C in case I can't get 80A/K or 71D.

I haven't tried 50C, but 66D/G looked good as an option. Even if I had to pay the exit row fee.

Sorry to go slightly off topic but when will QF1/QF2 be an A380 service? All my QF flying involves SYD-BKK (and after 3 equipment changes SYD<>LAX I am still yet to fly the 380!)

At this stage the A380 is bound to the LHR and LAX routes... time will tell if they open up BKK or HKG in the future.

Have 80A outbound on QF93 in Nov, and 80K on QF10 in the week before Christmas (ex-SIN connecting to QF6 on one of the old battleaxes like VH-OJD, which I've had a few times now) as bookends to a LONE4. Very much looking forward to it.

While I have an overwhelming preference for window seats, I'm curious as to how much the crew hatch in front of 71D might interfere with Y pax engaged in what you might call vigorous relaxation, particularly stretched out and the like- perhaps a more relevant consideration is how likely is it that FAs disturb you in accessing that space.....even if that's less likely to be a disruption on the second leg of QF10 for a variety of reasons.

The hatch where 70D would be is an emergency exit. I'm sure if it was in use you would not be sleeping.:shock:

So you got it for free inside T-24, but you could have had it if you had paid for it?

66D/E/F/G are not seats that you "pay for" like an exit row seat. It seems they are normally blocked from most, being kept for those with Über status like CL (or WP1).

After seeing them - I have been thinking that 66D/G might be the perfect compromise between 80A/K and 50C.......

Perhaps it needs to be an 80A/K strategy and then try to change to 66D/G inside T-24??

Just returned from our trip, seated in 80A/B. Seat is good with plenty of space and easy access to getting out to move around.

Close proximity to galley is a little annoying during the night and I don't like the entertainment screen in the arm rest as I find the angle for viewing not all that comfortable. However the added space is worth the other cons.

Hi,

I'm looking at booking 80A and 80B to London for our honeymoon next year. I'm thoroughly convinced on the benefits of 80A but am concerned about drawbacks for 80B.

There have only been a few comments here and there about 80B (or the equivalent 80J), but I was wondering if there's anyone who has actually experienced 80B for a long haul flight and can comment on it. I've seen vague comments such as the entertainment unit on the seat in front being slightly mis-aligned, the seat being narrower, extra limited foot/below seat room due to entertainment units etc, extra cold air from the exit row, noise from the self-serve bar, and so on.

The key attractions of 80A are having a window seat, seclusion from the aisle and yet still having the ability to exit to the bathrooms without climbing over the aisle passenger. The leg room for 80A is of course a bonus.

But I don't want these benefits at the expense of 80B being more uncomfortable than just your average economy seat.

Feedback from anyone with first-hand experience would be greatly appreciated!

I have experienced this seat and I'd say it's only slightly more uncomfortable. I didn't find it noticeably narrower but I have a pretty slender frame.

The biggest downside is the non-moveable armrest.

I definitely wouldn't hesitate to book this again when travelling with +1. If you rotate seats every so often to share the extra leg room you'll both be way better off than if you were to go for a regular economy row.

Not having to bother the person in the aisle seat when you want to get up and stretch your legs is also a massive win.

Or, if you can bare to be apart from your nearest and dearest for 10 hours in exchange for a much more pleasant experience just try to book 80A and 80K... You can always exchange longing/knowing looks across the cabin and meet up at the self serve periodically if separation anxiety starts setting in?!?!?

Me, my wife and our 15 y.o. daughter flew SYD-LAX in 80A/B/C and return in 80H/J/K in August last year with no complaints.

The fold-away screen and fixed armrests are no different to the exit row and baulkhead seating configuration (where I usually sit anyway) and we didn't find any issues.

We did that with row 70 on the way over last week (E & G I think) ; however flight was full.... so swapped into the middle seat. Lady ended up being really ungrateful and still fought us for the arm rest on the middle seat when she had the grace of being given an "in-cabin upgrade" to the aisle seat!

That's what myself and my +1 have booked for the flight home. I gave her the option of 80B or 80K... she said "I'll take 80K if that's OK....." ; was fine by me, I would have probably done the same! :mrgreen:

We flew home from London 2 weeks ago in 80A/B

I love a window seat so enjoyed 80a - did swap with hubby for a while but i mainly sat in the seat. He can sleep in any seat.

The leg room was great and the easy escape was fantastic, as I like to move out without sliding past everyone. It was also easy for DH to move in and out also, rather than going past the aisle person. The non moving of the arm rest was a bit inconvenient. The screen in 80B was fine.

We tried to book 80A and 80C but couldn't do it. Fortunately on the leg from Sin to Syd our aisle mate stopped off in Singapore and we had the row to ourselves. On the London - Sin leg the plane was packed!

One other slight downer of the seat was the proximity to the galley at nightime. Lots of movement and light in that area.

All in all I would still book the seats again, The positives outway the negatives. Enjoy!
