For those of you contemplating buying BP giftcards, there are a couple of problems:

From BP Australia _ Products and services - Cards - BP Gift Card
[h=2]Important details to keep in mind:[/h]

• Cards are only accepted at BP service stations and only one card can be used per transaction.
• Cards cannot be topped up or re-charged and don’t have a cash out facility.
• BP strongly suggests that all cards purchased should be stored in a secure location. Once activated, they are equivalent to cash.
• If your total purchase exceeds the stored value on the card, the difference on the purchase value can only be made up with cash.

did you fill up or you bought gift card? coz with coles, buying gift card doesnt land you 3 x points with the edge for example....

I just filled up with fuel - have filled up both our cars twice each since 1 October and all 4 times got a nice hefty bunch of points!
Will buy some gift cards closer to the promotion end date too.

Same here....one easy way would be to fill your petrol to a whole amount, and know the balance on your card. eg you could do 4 lots of $50 fills with a $200 gift card; but really no biggie in paying the balance of your petrol bill with your credit card once you have used the balance of your gift card up.

I see no problems with that at all

So then don't buy any gift cards and miss out on the 5x bonus points then

It's not that hard to buy $50 gift cards and fill your car to $50 if needed when the promo is finished

Okay, like hummel, this was my tester and it has posted (quickly too):

18/10/2011	BP MT COTTON MT COTTON QLD	$65.00	65	358	423
	BP Bonus Points	-		325
	Platinum Credit Card Bonus Points	-		33

So grand total is 6.5x points/$ spent. ^

At 5x points per $1 spent (ignoring my 0.5x Plat bonus and 1x for spend which I would get anywhere), it looks like they might get my business until 31 December.

Where did you get that idea? I always buy Coles&Myer gift cards from Coles with my Edge and always get my 3x bonus points.

I went to two BP stations on Saturday, one said you can only buy BP gift cards with cash (weird??), and then I tried another one - which said they dont sell gift-cards anymore (even though they had a promo sign).
This was around the Willoughby/CrowsNest (NSW) area.

I have one more BP in my local area, and hope that one works.

It's more a problem they don't know how to activate them as they never sell them.

I have purchased quite a few now but since I go to the same store they now know how to do it.

The first time it took 5 of them, yes 5 of them with the Manager about 10 mins to activate one card!

You can definitely use credit cards and they do sell them.

It's just lazy un-trained staff

Hmm...this is my neighbourhood. Have you tried this one? BP Express Tower, Willoughby - Service Station - LocalStore

Edited to add that just noted the post above...so it seems to be a staff issue.

I've tried the one opposite Willoughby Hotel (cash), and Willoughby/Donnelly Road (dont sell).
There is a new one on Willoughby/Forsyth St too.

Willoughby Road seems to be full of BP servo stations - 4 on the one road.
