Thanks for the heads up! Registered my plat edge. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your view), I don't spend much much on fuel, as I don't own a car (rent regularly though). Approx. 500 points per tank is pretty good!

A little advice
To ensure you receive your points
1. Make sure you take a print screen of the promotion
2. Copy of the terms and conditions including the dates it expires 31st December 2011
3. print screen registeration

We all know how annoying AMEX can be in not awarding points in a timely manner

4. Any ideas on how to milk this promotion like the D*ck Smith Promotion ?

5. Any Math wizzes out there who have calulated what is the best thing to do ?
Ie $0.04 per dollar at Coles or Woolworths or
5 bonus points from BP

You could use your edge card to buy fuel gift cards from a supermarket.

Just did some quick sums. Say you buy $50 petrol (my average per fill). With this promo, you will get a bonus 250 Amex pts. At say $1.40 per litre, $50 buys you 35.71 litres of petrol, which you save $1.43 with the 4c Coles / Woolworths discount. So you are foregoing a saving of $1.43 for 250 Amex pts, so costing you $0.0057 (or just over 1/2 a cent) per Amex pt (even less if you can tax deduct your car expenses).

So looks like I will be filling my car up at BP til 31st Dec!

Could you not buy a stack of BP gift cards just before the promo finishes, and then use them later? Not sure how long the gift cards are valid for but will ask the next time I fill in my car at BP.

I was using Wish gift cards purchased at Dick Smith with the 5x promotion, but I am nearly out of them.

So I can now purchase petrol for a few people and get quite a few $$$

Bank issued Amexe's are a waste of time IMO. Except when sign-on boni, or extra points per tx make them attractive (often limited to the start though). They are just earn and churn fodder for such deals.


With strategic buying and maximising bonii, direct issued Amexe's allow one to achieve average point earns well above the 1.5 of a bank issued one.

Best thing I ever did point earning wise was to get a direct earn Amex.

As the saying goes...I don't leave home without it!!!
