I also got the same outcome as Straitman - i.e. phone network locked and the Vodafone unlock website doesn't work on the phone. I've filled in the online form and will await someone to contact me within 48 hours.

The guy I spoke too was very strong on 'the phone is not locked' however when I put another sim in it says Locked to Network.

Their online stuff does not work with Chrome or Safari. (he told me that) Using Firefox I submitted the form but hold no great faith as Vodafone reception is appalling here. I should be driving past a shop on Monday or Tuesday so will go in there.

Wish me luck!

Forget the blocking - its easy enough to remove that.
How? I still have a Nokia N10 mini that is locked to Vodafone. Tried everywhere in Thailand without success.

This phone was part of a Vodafone contract that I was able to get out of early but they never unlocked the phone despite the calls and emails.

Got sms from Vodafone with a link, clicked in and put in my IMEI. It works now and got unlock code. Successfully unlocked now.

Was the link specific to you, or can anyone use it?
I have just unlocked mine Sam. It is a specific number that relates to the IMEI.

So the procedure is *#06# to get the IMEI
Put the IMEI into Unlock your device
When it doesn't work go to fill in the form (don't use Safari or Chrome) provided and they will get text back to you within 48hrs with an unlock code.

Re my initial query. My phone would not have worked in Fiji as it was locked to Vodafone Australia.

Follow that procedure JohnK and you'll be sorted out.

Funnily enough I needed to go to a Westfield today, so took my phone along. The staff in store had no dramas with the website like I was having at home and were able to print out the procedure for me. Haven't even looked at it yet.

I'm seeking to buy*, at a reasonable price, a couple of these phones (unlocked) to give to our village friends in Fiji. If anyone is interested then please let me know ASAP as I'll need to get them by Monday 28th January at the latest.

Thanks in advance.

My first bill arrived today (for the first month) and I have a payment due of $8.25. I haven't activated the sim, let alone used the phone. Aren't the first two months supposed to be free?

$8.25 is the monthly installment on the phone.

Got bills via email just now, $99 each. It is odd, the $25 credit is referenced in the bill, but does not result in a deduction to the bill. I'm thinking it woukd be too much effort to fight it and $99 for 40 000 points is still a good deal for me.

That's strange. My first billing cycle just ended, and my invoice states I am in CREDIT of $22.25. No payment needed. I have asked Vodafone to cancel my service at the end of my next (2nd) billing cycle (February 17th) so will provide an update as to the charges then.

Thanks for the tip. I'll take mine along to my local Vodafone store and see if I can get mine unlocked too. The online form just does not work for me as it does not for many others it seems.

Can the phone be unlocked from the network without removing it from the box? Would prefer to sell unopened.

I dont believe so because you need to power it up and then insert the unlock pin code that is provided.

You could grab the devices IMEI code from the outside of the box to find the unlock code.

I dont believe so because you need to power it up and then insert the unlock pin code that is provided.

Then simply include the code with the box, unopened.
