Just digging into +1s Ing Orange account for the recent Vietnam ATM fees for withdrawals. All different ATMs belonging to different banks
1) VND 2,000,000 withdrawn. ATM fee VND 66,000 charged (=AUD $4.06 charged but refunded by Ing)
2) VND 250,000 withdrawn. ATM fee VND 55,000 charged!! (=AUD $3.38 charged but refunded by Ing)
3) VND 3,000,000 withdrawn. ATM fee VND 50,000 charged (=AUD $3.09 charged but refunded by Ing)
4) VND 3,000,000 withdrawn. ATM fee VND 99,000 charged!! (=AUD $6.12 charged but refunded by Ing)
As my citibank MC debit card didn't work again (3rd time in 3 different countries - tried different ATMs and tried pressing both credit and savings) I couldn't compare the exact Fx rate between Ing and Citibank but the refund of the ATM fees makes Ing much better than Citibank imo....I know not all OS ATMs charge a withdrawal fee but I find it is becoming increasingly common in a lot of countries especially at airports
. In the past, i use to run around looking for a no fee charging ATM, but now I don't have to bother, REMEMBERING to deposit the $1000 into the Ing Orange the month before which is easy enough but the 5x Card transactions is a bit of PITA but I go to Woolworths / Coles self checkout and do split payment 5x to pay 5x $1...that seems to do the trick. All my OS trips are planned more than a month ahead....otherwise i guess you need to program a $1000 monthly deposit into you Ing account as well as make the 5x card transactions.
