I use Award Wallet regularly to keep track of FF accounts and tonite I noted that my account was depleted of 240000 US miles:shock::!:...whilst on the phone to US Airways, I noted the miles were deducted today for 4 Sin-Tpe return flights for travel in October 2013; it looks like a family travelling, and the father has the same First and Surname as me...so I can see what has happened - US airways have carelesslly pulled the miles from the wrong account:evil::evil:. Anyway, they want me to ring back US airways reservations at 8am Eastern which I think is in 2 hours time...hope I'll have no issues getting the 240K miles back. In what can only be described as a breakdown in privacy, I also have my namesake's email address....

Sounds like you should get some compensation too. Pretty terrible really, if they can't check on more than a name on an account... if the transaction was an accident that is.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

His middle initial is the same as mine as well (but the middle name is different).A quick google search reveals a picture of him and his wife, and the fact that he is 4 years older than me....

I also have my namesake's email address....
Tantalising statement, how did you get that?

Frankly am unsure how this could have happened accidentally, first thing they always ask me is my Dividend Miles #, not my name?

As far a a breakdown in privacy, yes absolutely but would note that you have freely given your US Airways details to Awardwallet, are you 100% confident it isn't Award Wallet that has been compromised?

Oh and apologies for not saying this earlier but hope you resolve this.

It was with the flight details and all 4 pax names' were visible to me...

Perhaps he had forgotten his US#, and asked the agent to look it up....too much of a concidence (for the Award Wallet angle) given that his First name, Surname and middle initial are identical to mine...another hour before I can ring US Airways...

This certainly looks like an operator error. I hope you get them back promptly.
Now about the cake that was cut in two with the bride and groom.............

I'm sure it will resolve kpc but what a pain to have to go through.

Best wishes.

:shock:Good luck hope you get your points back, huge operator error here, will be interested to know how you get on:shock:

As I feared, it couldn't be sorted out over the phone (25 min call), and they will get back to me in a day or two (they say) after they investigate...

For a moment there, I'd thought that you might've been flogging miles for Shanye2233......

It'll be fine. I suspect they want to keep the bookings but somehow reverse out the miles form one account to the other without a cancellation. Inconvenient for you, but hopefully you don't need to book any urgent travel!

As MEL_Traveller suggests, it will work out. However, it does expose a serious flaw in US's systems. There is no security challenge to verify the identity of the caller. My recent bookings allowed me to impersonate my step-dad and book a ticket for him and my mother with points coming from each account paying the taxes with my credit card with no request for me to confirm any details. I'm fairly sure I could have rung up and booked a ticket for myself and they wouldn't have batted an eyelid.

I note your point, but given the miles used were for the passengers travelling there is less of a security risk I would have thought. I have done the same as you, booked travel for both my parents from their accounts and no verification, but when I booked travel for myself from my mother's account they asked to speak to her to confirm her identity.

I have booked for family members from the accounts of other family members. I always explain the situation (eg I want to book a ticket for my son-in-law using miless from my daughter's account). I also tell them I am listed in the account as a person authorized to make reservations (see Third party authorization under Booking Preferences).

Still no joy even after firing off an email to the Dividend miles service centre :(

Which ironically doesn't do anything of the sort!

i use my families PIN numbers as ID for QF which is accepted
