....
I thought I read that this wasn't going to happen now till 2020 given that parliament won't sit until after June.
.... and they already knew the earliest date that Parliament would sit. So knew that the tax cut wasn’t happening from 1 July.

From the ATO:

“Following media commentary we would like to clarify that in respect of announced tax cuts, while we do need law change there are also things we can do administratively,” he said.

“For example, if the Labor Party agrees to support the Coalition tax cuts as announced, then we would be able to update the tax withholding schedules, to allow the tax cuts to be reflected in people’s take home pay. However, we could not issue assessments based on the tax cuts until these are passed into law."

“Tax relief will be delivered in 2019-20 as promised,” a spokeswoman for the Prime Minister said. “And will not be delayed by a year by the parliament not sitting in June as speculated in the media today.”

So, what will Labor do?

Not sure why the ATO is interested in the ALP view. What about the Parliamentary process?

Edit: Anyway, my thought was more about the LNP promising tax cuts but not mentioning that there was a question hanging over 1 July. Never heard that mentioned during the campaign. Must have missed that bit.

Why is it Labor's responsibility to save the Liberal party from embarrassment? If negotiation is required then why is it done publicly rather than behind closed doors?

There's no rush for ScoMo to fulfil one of his few campaign promises this early in the cycle. All he has to do is put it to the House in the last weeks of the government and tell the world how great he is and they'll believe him.

I fully appreciate the figure about 30% of workers not being able to pay an unexpected $500 bill, indeed I saw it recently when the employer of a person I know, had a computer glitch and paid their employees a week late.

The person concerned literally had no money and had to borrow from her parents to pay a regular bill that was due immediately.

Turns out $530 was legislated last year and starts 1 July 2019

The top-up to $1080 triggered by 2019 Budget and/or ALP Election commitment is not yet legislated. If it’s a split bill. Phase 1 & 2 would sail thru in day and half... but from the sounds of it, Frydenberg is going to do the entire tax package so that ends the idea the top-up will be ready before ATO starts processing 2018-19 tax returns. 30 June is a Sunday so the switchover between years is probably planned quite soon after. It’s unlikely to be held up for more than a few days noting last tax season most tax returns were processed inside 5 days. (Let’s not argue why this isn’t 5 hours or 5 minutes....)

I’m sure the ATO Would deploy the update quantum of the tax offset rapidly once the green light is given. Even if was was a software update, it would be done within hours.

Im told self interest is not an ALP thing??

By who? All the parties by their very nature have an element of self-interest, and some of the independents as well. If you believe otherwise you are a prime target for the flat earth society and climate change deniers.

And there won't be any reduction in aircraft movements until the 2nd airport is operational. Even then I suspect only LCC and regionals will adopt BC as a cheaper hub to operate out on.

So what is the number of climate related deaths including all natural disasters?Well the number has been falling over nearly 100 years. The doomsday scenarios really are wide of the mark.

ALP did extend a bipartisan hand across the aisle about these tax cuts behind closed doors before caretaker mode. But Libs sensing a loss didn’t want an ALP to deliver it after the elections. They wanted the ALP to legislate for it. But now as the Libs are back in the ALP does not want it especially in the Senate. Politics...

Not sure why you are opening up a new front in this election result discussion. Is it to deflect from the embarrassment caused on Q&A this week when the business representative on the panel showed Alan Jones up to be a 3-year-old when it came to debating climate change?

More consensus for you and your ilk to ignore .....

Or it could be argued that the number of deaths have fallen because there are now opportunities to evacuate people from areas where natural disasters are about to occur?

For example, there was a mass evacuation earlier this month with >1 million people moved out of the path of a cyclone. In 1999, 10,000 people died in a cyclone in the affected area. In the 2019 cyclone 16 people died.

So the event occurred but the death toll was dramatically reduced using lessons learnt and massive resources.

However, the cyclone still occurred so just counting deaths is not the true story about the frequency or severity of climate related events. The cost of the evacuation and resultant lost productivity hasn't been counted.

The NSW seat of Hunter is interesting
Fitzgibbons ALP is incumbent

Tight race between One Nation and Nationals for the important 2nd place. If ON get into 2nd, there may be an outside chance that Fitzgibbon can be bumped. I’m not sure

Does it really matter they are going to happen. No one fault that there is a process ss to follow to get it up and running. More attack dogs from the left coming out already with the "its a broken promise already' Get a grip and calm down

IMO that must be the left wing bias Q & A you are talking about
