According to AeroRoutes, Qantas will expand its codeshare partnership with Cathay Pacific from 25 October 2026. As reported, these routes include -
1) Adelaide to Hong Kong
2) Brisbane to Hong Kong
3) Hong Kong to Dhaka
4) Hong Kong to Kathmandu
5) Hong Kong to Manila

Original Article: Qantas Expands Cathay Pacific Codeshare in NW26 — AeroRoutes

This means Qantas Frequent Flyers will be able to earn the same number of Status Credits and points as they would on a normal Qantas flight on the Adelaide to Hong Kong and Brisbane to Hong Kong flights. It also means people will be able to travel on QF metal from Sydney to Hong Kong or Melbourne to Hong Kong and then transfer to a Hong Kong to Dhaka, Kathmandu or Manila flight earning the same number of status credits and points as if it was a normal Qantas flight on both legs.

What do people think?

Does the hive think this expansion of code shares will generate any more Classic Award redemption opportunities on CX metal?

No. Codeshares have no real bearings on CR unless its one of those special ones (which I don't believe this is).. It'll be up to Cathay still.

I believe its already codesharing on that route.
I don't think so.
If I try to book PER-HKG on the QF website it wants me to fly PER-SIN on a QF flight then SIN-HKG on a CX flight with a CX flight number.
Other than that it is only offering PER-MEL-HKG o QF metal.

Looks like QF want to keep forcing PER PAX to use their flight to SIN to access Asia.

I think Qantas usually shows options that travel via Singapore or Sydney or Melbourne in economy class but the direct QF codeshare Perth to Hong Kong flight is still available to book on certain dates (i.e. At the time of research, 4 November Perth to Hong Kong on QF 8200 is available in economy class one-way. For business class, 4 November Perth to Hong Kong on QF 8200 is also available)

Correct, but at a premium. Roughly 20% more expensive.
Codeshares never guarantee same costs or for that matter availability. IME they are a way of selling a few extra seats to the advantage of the airline, not the customer. Qantas were the first to use/invent codeshares and I am yet to see it advantage customers, normally it’s confusion with status benefits/entitlements such as extra baggage/lounge access, heck even seat selection.

I wasn't looking in economy. or in August 2027 either @elanshin.
However I happily stand corrected.
Looks like there was simply no availability on the dates I searched.

I guess even with the QF flight number this won't attract DSCs?

No, but they’ll earn full QF coded SCs (and points) v “Simpler & Fairer (TM)” earn.

Edit:
Oh, just noticed that PER-HKG is another route that gets preferencial treatment and a CX code earns the same SCs as QF!

They can also be handy for dropping hundreds of dollars in fuel fines, which is very much customer friendly.
They can also be useful for different booking rules. Has a situation where I was wanting to delay payment on a DCIR26 (but the same would apply for a DONEx). Having had the prime JL flight selected as D, they wouldn't let it hold for more than a few days without ticketing. On the otherhand, same flight selected using CX codeshare - no issues. No change to fare as it was a DCIR26. I dount there was any significant fuel fine difference.

And also ADL-HKG.
