I will be working in Melbourne that week, so Friday night drinks should be fine (it's also the first Friday I have free for the rest of the year :shock

Yeah, double checked some things, and it looks pretty good.

The question now is whether I should book a room, or not, as I am happy to go (stumble) home afterwards, but the price differential is somewhat negligible.

Or more to the point, are they any single folk staying at the HSW who can guest me into the lounge as their second guest (without actually sharing the room)??

How am I going to convince my wife that I need to attend 2 AFF Christmas parties?

What's the cheapest accommodation option that will get me access to the lounge, for someone with zero status? Not much point coming down if I can't join the party ...

What a marvellous idea! It is a shame the date is not suited to nomads or those that book their travel 3-6 months in advance.

Two options - try an e-standby upgrade (nor1) or to guarantee you need to book an executive room.

Another way, if you have not burned your Velocity Hotel Status bennie on PC, would be to use that to be granted to HHonors Diamond which, if your "My Way" is set correctly, would guarantee executive lounge access.

I won't be able to stay at the HSW because my plans for the following day are pretty heavy.

I will try to come along to the drinks though. I haven't met any of you guys yet.

(Except for awilcockson, would be a stellar effort if you did both AFF parties.

A couple of clarifications please:

1. Date is definetely Fri Dec 23 and not Thu Dec 22?

2. I have no idea about this lounge access thingy - is HH Dia gonna get me in the door? Won't be staying in hotel that night.

3. Do I have to indivdually wrap the gifts are are you guys prepared to just lucky dip from my sack?

A diamond needs to be a guest staying at the hotel (on a benefit eligible rate).

Unlikely to make this as I'll be arriving back into Melbourne from a road trip that day and it tends to be a pretty busy time of year.

Sounds like a lot of fun though, and I'll definitely pop in for a drink if I can.
