Actually - I don't have any secret AMEX tips but I do have a first post that suckered you in. Thought I'd say hello a little differently :) It's always boring to go to a thread full of titles saying, "Hey I'm new - look at me".

I'm Andrew a web/graphic designer - from Sydney, and man - I've been enjoying going through this site! My wife and I just joined the QFF program and I'm keen to squeeze as much as possible as I can out of it so there's lots of stuff keeping me reading.

I have a question - are there any general rules of ettequite I should follow around here? I got blasted for simply having a signature on another board when I didn't realise it wasn't the thing to do. :D

~Andrew :)

Welcome Aboard! :D

No secrets here really.. but DO read the sticky at the top of the Qantas forum, the Ultimate Qantas Guide. It really is a wealth of info.
http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/qantas-frequent-flyer/the-ultimate-qantas-guide-5364.html

If you see words from the following GODS, heed them. They know all! (or just about as much as it is possible to know about the art of FFing!)
Lindsay Wilson, Dave Noble, KiwiFlyer, NM, JohnK and straitman.

If you travel QF a lot, in non-red e deals, consider joining the American Airlines program. If you travel on re-e-deals, you won't earn AA on them.

If you are travelling to the US, consider the candy-thief challenge (while you can).

If you are travelling to/from NZ, KiwiFlyer knows ALL about earning in the land of the long white cloud.

The acronym LOTFAP refers to the US. (Land of the Free and Paranoid).

Oh one more thing, please don't recline your seat during the meal service.

Ace! (a word I'm trying to get back into the general population vocabulary - so tacky but so cool) :)

I read everything - my wife was suprised the other night when I was reading the terms and conditions of some program - maybe I'm a little cough like that ;)

Still trying to work out what all the acronyms mean, but I'm sure I'll get there. Probably needs a little more lurking before I'm ready to post comprehensively.

Thanks for the heads up! :D

Oh - I'm heading to the UK in May... any tips specific to this are awesome, but obviously I'm going to be looking around a whole lot.

~Ants :)

Welcome Andrew.

We are generally pretty easy going and friendly around here, and appreciate the time and effort people put into sharing the experiences and suggestions. Signatures are great, but do try to refrain from using AFF for your own commercial promotion or pushing political (or otherwise) agenda. Personal opinions are very welcome so long as they don't slander and not not inappropriately provokative.

Automatic signatures can be enabled if you pay for a subscription to the forum, which will also provide you ad-free participation in the forum.

Hey Nelly,

I had noticed pretty much the lack of signatures and thought there must have been a reason ;) I have also noticed my over-use of emoticons.

I hope I can get heaps out of the forum has looked thus far like a great spot.

Second post in the thread, line 6ish and AAdvantage gets a mention already :)

Welcome Ants. This is a slightly different forum to others you might go to - it actually seemes in the main to be populated by adults  so dont be surprised if you see actual conversations with reasoned arguments.

There is a lot of informaiton here and a somewhat useful advanced search function (which itself is not that easy to find). One tip, and its a little depressing, if you think you have a new piece of news - someone probably beat you to it ;) Its a bit depressing sometimes.

I would echo Bambam's comments re the posters he named - each one a tome of information :)

Please share your trip info with us - always interesting to see what everyone else is up to.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Welcome Ants.
Look at this sticky in the Your Questions forum for some help here.

Soon you will be a "Posting Freak", no literally as the thresehold, unlike FFP status thresholds, are quite low and also the status does not expire:!:

This site must be on a different Internet then, 'cause the Internet I know is nothing like that! ;)

Well - I must say, I did notice one bit of news that I couldn't find - which was that I got double QFF points for booking my up coming trip through Qantas Holidays and spending $300 on other stuff with them - I thought that was a good deal considering I'd be getting double points. I haven't seen that here yet. Maybe I haven't looked far enough!

Anyway - combine that with a recently got ANZ card used to purchase the tickets, a possibly new AMEX card (promo for 20,000 points ends today) and I think I'm pretty well set for a nice amount of points to start with.

Welcome Ants,

Looks like you are a good way along your huge learning curve. As other have said, there aren't any questions that are off limits here so long as they are about anything vaguely to do with FF and so long as they don't flame anyone or push any significant personal agendas.

You'll quickly see that All post stay right on topic  so long as you consider alcohol an important part of any and all topics.

On a serious note for just a second, I see that you are already looking at points through CC purchases. You'll see that the different types of CC have been thrashed to death a few hundred times so there is really a wealth of info out there to look at and often what's best for one is isn't for others. ANZ has some quite severe point limits if you have a high spend, whilst some others have a poor exchange rate ($2 spend to 1 QF FF point) and others have relatively generous exchange rates ($1 spend to 1.5 QF FF points).

Good luck.

Ants, have you read the threads on this site about the Citibank Gold no annual fee ever. It has a free rewards program and 1 to 1 conversion to QF FF points. I learnt about it from this site and have had one for a couple of months now and it is great, doesn't have the points cap of 1500 per month for 1 to 1 like ANZ. I rang and cancelled my ANZ and they asked me why, I told them about my fee free Citbank card and they had never heard of it and I think doubted me. Thanks again to you people here for putting the info on the site, I have passed it on the others by word of month as well.

The thread topic is misleading, so don't make a habit of it though as you don't want to "mislead or engage in deceptive conduct" :p.... (Relax, I am not biting).

Seriously though, welcome to the forum - you will find a wealth of knowledge here. However one person who really stands out is NM :D. She has also posted some interesting photographs of various things so check them out and she is a very helpful person.

Have you checked out the ABTC Card? Business Mobility Group - Key Initiatives - I have mine - where is yours ?

LOL! I have heard Nelly (NM) called a lot of things but never a she. :p He should really change that signature with reference to the fictitious Nelly Mobbs.

Yes he is a very knowledgeable and helpful person, he is prone to making comical typing errors and he is a proud father to 4 children.

LOL I assumed she due to NM's "big bus" but hey you learn something new, every day.

BTW, JohnK and everyone else: Happy December :)
Perhaps time for admin to change the forum to "RED" for the festive season"?

Sorry if this is OT, but who else has ordered their Boony & Beefy dolls?
NM - I presume you would ?

If you type "Nelly Mobbs" in google, the first result you have is Nelly Mobbs referred to as being a "she" in the Flyertalk forums:

LOL! I wouldn't worry about it. NM will have a chuckle when he reads this thread tomorrow.

If you ever have a few hours to spare that FT post is an excellent read. You will not stop laughing. The person that posted it, incorporated many FT handles into his post. Hence NM was transformed into Nelly Mobbs.

You should be able to recognise a few folk that frequent the threads of AFF in that soap opera :)

Yes I vaguely remember NM, Lindsay Wilson, kiwi flyer, Dave Noble and co. I remember the first time I read it I could not read it all at once. I could not stop laughing. It is hysterical. Now that I am not working I may read it again tomorrow.

I find FT to be a bit too congested - I prefer this forum as its a smaller community with specific relevance to myself.
