But the website is not available to click through too anymore is it ??

I haven't seen any adds for it, we can only find it because we know the exact website address

Well the advertisements on the front page are random... I havent seen it for a while.. so presumably they have removed it...

However the websites are there... we know the address... they know the address... they should definitely take it down or amend the T&C there.

OK, I'm going to be an optimist. Changing the T&Cs for those already registered would have to be at least a PR nightmare.

Perhaps they will leave anyone already registered with the original T&Cs, then monitor this smaller group closely for abuse of the promo. In a couple of days release the promo again with the 40K cap or whatever other measure they come up with to protect themselves.

I still think that a 40K cap defeats the stated purpose of this promo, to seek out more merchants accepting the card. So hopefully they are looking at some other alternative for those not already registered.

snufl: Yep, sounds the right way to go about it.

Just because there is a few hundred of us in here, at most, taking full advantage of the promo. I know of many others who have AMEX and don't have time to stuff around with extra work or more spending to get more points.

For me, I ONLY shop/eat where I can use AMEX now, anywhere else is walked out on now

AMEX - A great promotion and I will keep submitting on-line forms for those places that dont' accept AMEX

hear hear !

I am only using Amex now and have walked out of several stores who don't have it. I also will now start submitting the online forms. Seems only fair to Amex for a great promo

Hello regulars, lurkers and newbies. I thought I might pop in a post to imprint my name on this historic thread! It's been a little taxing to read some of the repetitive posts, but people's attitudes seem to have gotten less agressive since the weekend, when it seems that some were totally losing the plot! :)

Just on the point that the website has not changed the wording of the offer (i.e. still 'no limit'); one should consider that, once published, those terms remain the same for the purpose that members who signed up to the offer, did so under those published conditions. I believe it would be unprofessional for AMEX to change the wording of those terms - if someone (non AFF) unwittingly returned to that website only to see the altered conditions, it would cause inconsistencies and conflict.

This is not to say that AMEX won't change the terms, but if they did, they would do so in writing, and probably create some sort of alternative webpage.

Also, on a completely separate note, I very much respect AMEX (Luisa)taking the effort to provide informal communication through this forum - it shows they have an active interest in their stakeholders. While I understand that there has been a lot of speculation, I call on AMEX to end this confusion and provide a definitive response as to the ongoing validity of the terms of this promotion. Even if just to say that members will be receiving some further correspondence regarding this promotion. If not, I will assume that the promotion stands AS IT WAS ORIGINALLY OFFERED, for those that have already signed up. Do others agree?

wiz - i doubt that luisa or anyone else from amex will be commenting further until after any official update on T&Cs, especially if they are seeking legal advice.

myself, i am signed up for myreward and would hope that amex decide to run another promotion like this down the track at some stage. if there is any abuse of this promotion, or they don't make their objectives (eg signing up more merchants) this will be less likely. even if the points are capped at 40k, thats more than i would have gotten on the normal 1.5 per $ spent, so its just a bonus

Well here in lies the problem. Any changes to the terms and conditions is speculative. The legal advice you mention AMEX is receiving is also purely speculative... Information that has only come from posters in this forum is not necessarily reliable (don't believe everything you read).

In any case, if you read between the lines of my post, my statement was effectively inviting guidance on whether we can expect to hear anything more from AMEX. Until then I am not making the assumption that most others on here have, unless AMEX themselves clarifiy the situation.

My position is that, for me, the promotional terms, as stated in the postcard I received, are the ones that apply to me :) (...now does a deposit constitute a transaction?)

Alas, only one of yesterdays transactions has posted so far.

For All AFF’s Information

I just got off the telephone from my mate at Gordon and Slater.

He advises me that they have been informed by AMEX of the change to the terms and condition to the promotions IE 40,000 cap for the promotion period.

They are now awaiting written confirmation of this.

In the interim they are putting together a list of aggrieved card holders to analyses the possibility of putting forth a Class Action against AMEX for breaches under the Trade Practices Act (Cth) in addition they would also look to represent card holders in relation to complaints lodged with the Local Regulators IE ASIC ACCC and Dept of Fair Trading in each state and territory.

I will let you know the website once they have loaded onto the web.

This email is just to keep you informed of events and options that you may wish to take. No Legal Advice is provided nor promises of a compensation payout.

Why would Amex be contacting Slater & Gordon for legal advice regarding this. Slater & Gordon are the type of firm that would be acting for cardholders against Amex. Cannot see any reason for Amex to be discussing this with Slater & Gordon and if they did would be very suprised if a employee from Slater & Gordon would leak information!

Maybe they are implementing te terms and conditions as published and you will have to wait 8 to 10 weeks for the next round of bonus points ;)
Heaven forbid they should apply the appropriate T & C's. How will the ambulance chasers survive :?: :D

Interesting transactions have posted from yesterday to MR but with no more bonus points...

I've had 12,314 points taken away from me this morning! overnight :(

I've hit > 40,000 ....

SnowYeti, are you registered for more than one promo? And 12,314 isn't even a multiple of 5000?

I didn't realise this is turning into such a massive show down with Amex. I've come from another website that mentioned how much discussion there is.

Lets be honest here:
  1. The first couple of pages regarding how to play with the system already puts us in a bad light.
  2. You scan try to screw them over but it doesn't mean they are not going to screw you back.
  3. They made it NO LIMIT but we kind of went NO LIMITS with trying to screw them over.
Be serious 1 reward point is worth about 1c. So you are going to put through 10x 72c transactions at woolworths to get $50. How long is it going to take you? Cost vs Benefit.
