Anyway getting back on topic - I have a large purchase to make later this month - wonder if Amex will be concerned about splitting a $6,000 bill into a couple of chunks ;) AT that point not a great deal of benefit to be had from splitting ;)

Splitting is splitting and not recommeneded in my books.

However, shopping at say Myer or David Jones where you should pay in each departments area is a different story!

I'm up to 20000 bonus points so far, so still a way to go before I find out if the 40000 cap is true or not

Water bills

I'm about to pay two SA Water bills online and there's NO WAY that I can use Amex. It'sVisa or MC only.

Oh the pain :(

Its not only the water bill, but most services such gas, electricity, annual rates, etc... they do not take Amex

Wish I could pay all my bills with amex... :D

the 40k cap has been reported by 4 users here via phone calls.
however, they also only joined after the announce from Luica (?) from Sep19

for me, I won't hit that mark til end next mth even even buying lunch daily
also, I duno if I got a postcard - my mail is normally 2wks late and often lost

In that sense, amex has 1mth to implement the 40k cap and still affect me. So no surcharged bills thanks! Strange how amex easily changes our behavior - twice now!

Wouldn't expect amex to post here for a few days, they have 40pg to wade thru since Fri and I'm sure she's not full time ffa reader as her job!
:)

I recently purchased around $15,000 in a single transaction from a well known furniture retailer. They could not deliver immediately and chose to split the delivery into 4 separate bundles (I was not concerned) as the stock arrived. They wanted a deposit plus part payments upon each delivery. So in the end the $15,000 was split into 6 separate transactions (their system could only process a max of $3000 so one deliver was split into two payments). Unfortunately this was a few months ago so the transactions do not count in this promotion. Oh well, I was happy with the 23K NR points earned.

No offense, but spending $5 on a t-shirt is just as bad as paying $1 increments of a bill... IMO... :)

Actually my husband works in a container yard and he gets filthy so it is more convenient if he just wears a cheap t-shirt or singlet for a few days and tosses it. Even after one day, washing never removes all the dirt.

On another note, has anyone else had trouble getting into the Amex site? Maybe it's just my Three mobile broadband but I can't get in to check if my points posted for the weekend. I saw this morning, a whole heap of transactions posted but the points hadn't gone through by 6am when we leave for work. I couldn't get on at smoko and I just tried again with no luck.

I have ADSL 2+ at home (to give you a speed comparison) and it has been slow switching between the Account page and the MR page. I noted all my weekend transactions hit this morning before I started work (working form home today) with no MR points posted. I checked agin around 9:15 and all points and bonuses had posted - still reasonably slow website though.

Everything is slow on Three, even this page takes a couple minutes to load. I don't even TRY to look at photos or YouTube until I get home.

I am dying to know because I had 19 transactions as of this morning (5 more pending-the amounts were taken off my limit so I know they are in there but not posted).

5000 bonus points posted on Saturday, so I should have at least 10,000 more.

ITunes has an Aussie ABN so I hope that's a local, not foreign transaction.

May need to top up the car after work today and stop off at Subway or Dominoes!

I had a lot of issues with getting to certain sites, of which AMEX was one from my Three mobile broadband dongle while I was in QLD a few days ago, so maybe they're having issues.

I'm not sure if this applies to you but this is my experience

I have > 1 card & when I go to the myreward link to key in my username & password, I did not remember being asked to select a card. So I called up the Amex line on the back of the card & as I suspected, the card that I used most is not registered. I am glad that I checked & I can now see the 5K bonus points showing up :p - although I loose out on a few transactions earlier in the month :(

Interesting, I thought it was tied to the MR account, rather than the card. Although, I guess I just assumed this as there is nothing in particular on the site to pick a card

maybe set up a lay-by? and pay $6,000 over xx equal payments, say 20 for a start?

Mods: Just out of curiosity, any figure on the maximum number of viewers on this thread at the one time? Has the magical 100 viewers simultaneously viewing this been achieved?

I consistently see 20+ at any one time ;)

Been trying to opt-in to this offer on the AMEX website since yesterday but the web page is down. After a couple of calls I got through but they insist that I must have the postcard and that the web site offer is meaningless without having the postcard in hand.

On top of the fact that I soon won't be able to transfer points to Qantas this Platinum card is looking like a dud with high fees, thinking I'll dump it when it expires end of November. :(

Mods don't have access to any more detailed stats than you already see. 34 currently viewing this thread at the moment.

When I entered the promo I just followed the link and was not presented with any options to choose which membership rewards account to use. I currently have 4 Amex cards (well five if you count the gold card that they wont cancel) under two awards accounts:

Ascent:
My plat charge
mrssimongr plat charge
Plat CC

Corporate Ascent
Green

Transactions on my and mrssimongr's plat chg cards have contributed. I have not used the other cards.

I dont plan to use the Plat CC and with no/limited business travel planned before the end of the year I am not sure that will see 5 transactions.

@alanslegal I will be doing layby so there will be two payments at least - mind you not being an aussie I dont really understand layby and whether I will have to pay in installments...

Thankfully having reworked that budget, the cost is closer to $3,500 :)
