Just to confirm - the darn system does work (sort of).

15 Transactions since my last bonus was posted, 5 in HKG and 5,000 bonus posted against transaction 15.

I am currently 106K points under based on a 5K/5T model and 11K on a 5K/10T model.

I will be home tomorrow morning and will see whether Amex have responded by post to my request. If not I will be making a call.

simongr, How do you get a balance not equal to a a multiple of either 5K or 10K? Or are you counting all transactions in excess of the exact 5 or 10 and proportionalising? Also, based on the 5K/5T model "balance", shouldn't your points under the 5K/10T's be higher (like 53K).

Now I might not know how to drive anything but a very basic Excel spreadsheet, but those numbers just didn't look right...

ISTR Simon was POC'ed.

Before that had occurred he had transferred some thousands out of Amex MR.

When the POC occurred, I guess they wanted to remove more points then he still held in his account so all remaining MR points at that time were procured.

This was not a multiple of 5K.

I was poc'd 8,899 points after having transferred out 45K points to SPG. They cleared out my MR account as they could not poc me the "correct" reduction. And by correct I mean their definition of correct rather than in actuallity the amount that I believe is due to me under the terms of their agreement and offer to me.

Thanks very much for your input roddgyer..

I have noticed your substantial input to this thread, and find your comments to reflect a unique vision and a special perception, truly beyond the understanding that normal people are able to attach to simple words.

Might I humbly suggest that your unique talents are , perhaps , a little wasted on such a humble discussion as this ?

You clearly are destined for bigger things, and I'm sure that the other list members would not wish to stand in your way if you found it difficult to continue to support the thread.

Cheers

You know, tgh, you're right. All this time, I had not realised that rodgerbranch was indeed just looking at this from a unique perspective - one that most others in this thread could see. I think that's a commendable ability, and one which should be put to good use. Public relations is one field which comes to mind. Or politics.

For those Poc'd, did the front webpage one 'clicked' n acceptance button say (as maybe Free v Jetstar requires) things like 'enrolling for the best deal will result in pocing'?

As for Amex's intention, is 2.55% + GST a hefty whack compared to visa or m/card:
AGREEMENT FOR AMERICAN EXPRESS® CARD ACCEPTANCE & THE PRIVATE ROOM AMERICAN EXPRESS FOR THE RESTAURANT INDUSTRY
American Express is pleased to confirm the terms for American Express Card acceptance as set out in this Agreement and the Card Acceptance Terms and Conditions:
  1. Instead of the Standard Merchant Service Fee of 2.55% (excluding GST), you have chosen to accept a Reduced MSF option (as notified and subject to the conditions in our letter to you) which includes membership to The Private Room.
  2. Your Reduced MSF will become effective within 30 days from enrolment in The Private Room.
  3. This Agreement will take effect for a period of five (5) years from the date your Reduced MSF is activated (the "Initial Term") as per Clause 2. Either party may terminate this Agreement at the end of the Initial Term by providing 30 days written notice to the other party.
  4. Your Reduced MSF and inclusion in The Private Room is offered on the basis that you choose not to differentially surcharge or dissuade/discourage American Express Cardmembers from using their Cards during the Initial Term.

A 'differential surcharge' means a fee charged to an American Express Cardmember on top of the purchase or service price, which is greater than the lowest fee charged to users of other credit or charge cards.
  5. If you choose to differentially surcharge American Express Cardmembers, or dissuade/discourage them from using their Cards during the Initial Term, then you agree that American Express will have the right to:

    a) raise your MSF to the Standard MSF (currently 2.55% excluding GST); and

    b) terminate your inclusion in The Private Room and any other marketing programs or benefits you have with American Express.
  6. You may terminate American Express Card acceptance at any time by giving us at least 30 days notice.

Note to self - buy more troll food - seem to be running out...
simongr,

Have you thought of simply not feeding the troll at all. As I commented earlier it's still fun, though not very intellectually challenging, to read the comments and let him rant and rave to himself :!:

You save money on troll food but you lose an AMEX transaction. ;)

Joined before 19 Sept. Recieved 15,000 pts before the cut off. Not POCed. Called and confirmed to be on 5000/5T. No additional points received so far.:(

Why would Amex get pissed off with so many small charges? The whole point of the promo is to increase the use of the card on everyday purchases...

Well, I duno depends on what amex charges the charities - flat % or min charge.

You should not have to wait much longer. Otherwise I feel very sorry for the people manning the phones at Amex as the 10 week mark clicks over in December. They will be very tired by the festive season.

Our situation is exactly the same as yours except points are crediting as regular as clockwork in November. Only problem is 5K is allocated each 10 transactions, not 5 transactions. What that means we don't know but unlike many others here, at least we are getting something.

If it is a flat fee then multiple small transactions are good for Amex. If it is a % then any transaction is good for Amex.

Has anyone had any luck finding anywhere that will accept Amex for purchase of bus tickets in Sydney (i.e. Sydney Buses Traveltens)? I have had a very difficult time finding anywhere that will accept Mastercard/Visa, let alone Amex. Even 7-Elevens which accept Amex on other items will allow only cash payments for bus tickets.

Just a reminder to everyone, if you want to support the guys on Australian Frequent Flyer that are taking part in Movember, then check http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/playground/movember-11286.html - you'll find that people are putting links to their "mospaces" where you can go and donate using your Amex, of course - especially if you have an ABYSMAL number of transactions (apologies here - must....stop....feeding.....troll)

Maybe we should have a Team AFF for Movember next year!

The 7-Eleven closest to my office has no issues taking Amex for bus tickets - it's on the corner of Clarence St and Erskine St. As for Mastercard or Visa, any of the Transit Stop shops take them with no worries and no surcharges.

7 Eleven stores are owned by individual franchisees (all but 1 Melbourne corporate store).
The margin on bus tickets is around 2% which is why some stores are reluctant to accept Amex unless you buy other things, although they are supposed to take Amex (and other credit cards) for any amount.
You can just shop around other 7 Eleven stores (even outside CBD) until you find one that accept Amex for bus tickets.
I never have any problems buying bus tickets at various 7 Eleven using Amex.

No reply from Amex yet so I have called and left a message - if no call back soon (Monday) then it will be time then it will finally be time for the BFSO.
