I believe Diesellife has provided the right answer and here are the cover types with the meaning of Frequent Traveller. In my opinion the policy is over priced.

Oh well.

It looked like cheap points for a couple of minutes. :(

Am I right in believing if you purchase your travel using an Altitude Amex or Visa card you get travel insurance thrown in for free?

Many cards give you free travel insurance but often with restrictions.

They effectively require you to purchase everything on that card which is the easy part. Beyond that you really need to read the PDS as they all seem to have different and sometimes have some very unpalatable exemptions.

To my knowledge there is only on card that offers TA that does not have a bunch of limitations that I cannot accept.

Bill, I checked the pdf for my Westpac Platinum Amex and it does offer a reasonable insurance cover of the ticket is purchased using the CC. I believe some of the other Westpac CC products offer same.

Excellent news. :D

If you are happy with it then that is all that matters. I'm just suggesting that people be cautious as not all TA is equal.

I just checked the amex site for the insurance provider which is Mondial. The quote from amex is $443 whilst that straight from Mondial is $399 for same frequent traveller insurance. As others have also pointed out this kind of insurance can be found cheaper still.

It really depends upon what 10000 MR points is worth you your specific situation.

For me, certainly well over $200 so it could be worth considering (however, my current annual policy does not expire until September).

And even cheaper if you purchase from Travel Insurance Direct with the 10% discount code.

As serfty mentions it all depends on how much you value the Amex MR points and whether you need to buy some points. I recently purchased a similar annual policy for ~$178 and I am not prepared to spend ~$265 more on travel insurance (even though I value Amex MR points >2c/point) just to "buy" 10,000 Amex MR points.

The cheapest I can get this Amex insurance for the 10,000 boni points is $493 for a single traveller ! ??

Has it increased? I tried the other day and it was $443!

Unbelievable that is has increased by $50 in a few days. It is not like it was a competitive product to start with anyway.
