New Card - Rewards Advantage Card

sorry to revive this oldish thread. it seems that that you can apply for this if you have a charge card. when i called ae, the consultant said to me that this offer was only offered to charge card holders; and that as i had a platinum credit card, the rewards advantage was not available to...

    Travel Insurance

Yah, check with the pds. But i know that they've changed the normal platinum credit card. Before it only included the main card holder and the card holders family (i.e dependents etc) but now it includes all supplementary card holders.

    Blue Sky

Boo, it looks like its only economy seats. Seems like pretty poor value to me though :(

    Which card?

I dont think that there's one sole credit card that would be a perfect fit. I'd be aiming for two credit cards. An amex for membership rewards and a cheap no frills visa/mastercard for all other non-amex friendly purchases. But it really depends upon your purchases. If most of your purchases are...

    Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

Has anyone had experience in redeeming flights with virgin atlantic and/or their partnered airlines using Virgin Atlantic Flying Club? I checked their website and it seems that their virgin atlantic flights from syd to hk/london are pretty competitive. Surprisingly, their partnered airline...

    Rejected Application

I think it should be easy for people on the ca/cpa/lawsoc etc gold cards to move to the platinum cards. i couldn't have imagined the gold being very profitable for amex. amex wants more annual fee revenue. i'm seeing a lot more platinum credit cards these days. dammit. i'm never going to get...

    Rejected Application

azurenights, i reckon its something to do with amex. im in a similar situation as you. very weird indeed - i tried to move my personal card to the gold charge but got rejected (i was going to travel and wanted the travel insurance). dont know why, but i met the criteria - though i didn't have...

    New CPA Platinum Credit Card.

For those who would care, CPA has finally joined the others (CA, AMA, Law Soc) in providing an Amex Platinum Credit Card. $295 standard discount stuff. I'll change mine to that when my annual fee comes round!

    New QF Amex

Not worth it in my imho. Plus when virgin atlantic becomes on board with the 1:1 thing, i know who i'll be flying.... qantas syd to hong kong: - econony - 60,000 - business - 120,000 - first - 180,000 virgin atlantic to hong kong - economy - 45,000 - premium economy - 54,000 -...

    Card Alerts

Just noticed that Amex has a Card Alerts section in the internet banking. It allows for Amex to send you an email or sms whenever you are reaching your credit limit (or $xx_ of your credit limit), when payments have been recognised, and weekly balance updates. Checked the faqs...

Has anyone ever been charged excess Baggage ??

Virgin Atlantic is notoriously bad. I had to pay for being 5kgs over. The guy next to me, being an amateur golfer, found it cheaper to send his gear through Qantas. The most annoying thing was that our flight was completely empty. GRR.

AMEX charge cards versus credit cards

I think its based on your monthly spend / exposure rate. The higher monthly spend you have, the greater 'limit' you'll have. If you do need to make a big purchase, i've been told by amex to give them a call first so they know to approve it. Depending upon how big it is, amex may ask for proof...

I just want a simple Visa card!

Not sure whether this has changed, but the citibank silver card represents decent value for what you are looking for. It has a point cap though - i don't know by how much though. I think the annual fee is roughly $70 pa. Has 1:1 point conversion Includes purchase insurance.

TIPS for obtaining more cc points/QFF points

There are other professional organisations that provide Amex cards. AFAIK there's the CA, and the NSW Law Society. Heres my tip - although you can purchase a season ticket from any cityrail station with a mc, vc or bc, you have to waddle off to Wynyard to be able to puchase them with AMEX.
