General IT Project Discussion (split from Qantas Frequent flyer out of the stone age)

Re: Qantas Frequent flyer out of the stone age That's something that has been attempted in the company I work for. We are trying to move all 500 sites around the world onto one common platform, one site (more or less) at a time, with the intention of moving from 20 software/platform providers...

Excuses, excuses - you missed your flight because.....

I've missed 4, and come embarassingly close to missing a very important one: The first one was what should have been a very simple BHX-CDG, and the train to the airport suffered an electrical failure half in and half out of Birmingham New Street station. Sat there for 30 minutes before they...

One World to Star Allaince transit in Sydney

I know that my experience today is the other way round compared to the OP's request, but this morning I got off an Air China flight at 0934, and was in the shower at the T3 J lounge shower at 1020, having hit the duty free shop, immigration, collected luggage, gone through customs, endured a...

    Changi named World's Best Airport

I've transited through BKK twice in the last few months, and I really was not keen at all. Boarding is an absolute scrum, with pushing, shoving and everyone trying to be through the door first. The airport itself is dreary. It reminds me of being inside an old factory, there's been no attempt to...

    Your Dream Destinations?

I've no interest in shopping, only a passing interest in culture but a huge interest in idyllic tropical island paradises (or whatever the plural of paradise is!) I've been lucky enough to already have been to a few in the Carribean and the Maldives, I think the Seychelles, Bora Bora...

QF check-in agent told me a whopper last night...

Hmmm, that's an absolute corker! Lose your flying status (achieved by spending several thousands of dollars with QF and hours sitting on one of their planes) for the sake of a kilo or two of hand luggage? Was there an aroma of, errr, illicit substances hanging around this guy?

Avis Group E or Hertz Group D

I enjoy driving, but my personal preference is the Aurion over the Falcons. My Hertz "D" rentals over the last 4 months or so have been all Toyota (which in most cases have been a fair way from being new), with just one G6 thrown in, which was only a few thousand kms old.

My First Status Run (Sort Of)

Plenty of time! Out of the front of T3, cut through the centre of the car park and into T2 in about 5 minutes. I find that there is normally much more of a queue for security in T2 than T3, but still very easily doable. Enjoy!

    Suggest a destination

I've got a soft spot personally for Vietnam. Easily enough to see and do for a week. Spent 6 weeks in total in Ho Chi Minh City last year. Good food, interesting places to visit, and it's easy to get off the beaten track there

    buying a digital radio OS

Just to confirm - there are several different Digital Radio standards, each seemingly varying degrees of (in)compatibility. And as nlagalle has already mentioned, Australia uses DAB+. (Which I was unaware of, until I brought my DAB radio/alarm across from the UK only to find that picks up...
