Skytrax annual results are in and Changi has moved to the top of the list this year. As reported in Channel News Asia

SINGAPORE: Changi Airport has bounced back from third placing in 2009 to become the "World's Best Airport" this year in Skytrax World Airport survey.

In the annual survey of travellers worldwide last year, Changi was placed third, trailing behind Seoul's Incheon and Hong Kong. But this year, Changi overtook Incheon and Hong Kong to top the ranking. Changi also won the Skytrax award for Best Leisure Amenities.

OK queue annual comments:;)
1) Yes it deserves it, 2) No HKG is better 3) ICN is supposed to be really good 4) T1 is awful 5) I hate gate based security 6) I love the gate based security 7) I don't like the carpet 8) I love the carpet 9) Skytrax methodology is flawed 10) Better shopping at HKG 11) Better shopping than HKG 12) what about DBO ?

You already picked some of my comments :D

Actually didn't mind the list and think it's pretty accurate. Out of the top 10, I've been to 6 of them and I believe all are quality airports. Of course some of the terminals in those airports aren't that great (ie the T1 vs T3 vs T4 vs T5 @ Heathrow battle!)

Move on people, nothing left to see or say after comments from dajop.

He's said everything you could be thinking of about the topic before you've thought it. ;)

I am not impressed with you lot , Dajop has not said all there is to say and misses the big news, Auckland the best in the Pacific and Brisbane the only Aus airport in the top 25, I would have thought ADL would get the gong rather than coming 4th for Oz.

I suspect the more intl pax an airport had the better the votes it got, all other things being considered equal, maybe the awards should be voted on the basis of what airport you would prefer to spend 12 hours in if you had to????

BNE Airport deserves its No 19 rating, but getting to and from is getting way off the tolerance scale.

I don't feel that Bangkok is a top ten airport. I'm interested to hear if others on this site like the Bangkok airport. I've find it somewhat depressing - almost prison-like.

Have only been to Suvarnabhumi airport once, and while it's a dramatic improvement over the old airport - I still don't think much of it. Too clinical for my liking (though the fact that I couldn't find the lounge probably had something to do with my opinion..)

When you're basing an assessment on a population of people who voluntarily submit their Likert assessment of a product and/or service, there's bound to be bias, error and general methodological malaise.

FWIW IMHO I find HKG to be the best airport in the world. Perhaps that's not fair because SIN has been around a lot longer, and still has its charm. Also, some parts of SIN have more personality in them (gardens, facilities and the like), but some other parts of SIN are quite old looking and need a bit of lift. HKG has lots of glass and great views outside. Some of the lounges which utilise the open ceiling technique (e.g. CX Wing, G16 Lounge, VS Clubhouse) are invariably more relaxing and pleasant than a lounge which is just another room (or pill box, depending on size) with perhaps another window. (Yes I know some of you disagree because at least in the pill box you don't hear all the riff-raff going through the terminal...)

Again, that's just me.

As if to compensate, I forgot to mention that SIN airport is closer to the city than HKG airport is to its host city (even if you take into account the high speed links for each airport to city) and SIN has a better airport hotel(s).

Not awfully surprised that AKL took best in SWP - SYD and MEL definitely don't rate against it and BNE is too small to bother with. It's not a spectacular airport, mind you; I'm hoping that the facelift its been recently given is only the start of changes. I am very surprised that BNE made the world's top 25.

I hate BKK with a passion. The first time I went there I too thought it felt like a prison. I only transit there if it is absolutely necessary (and recently it wasn't necessary in retrospect).

BKK is not too bad, except with the constant announcements in the escalators around the terminals ...... still ringing in my ears!

The white zone is for loading and unloading of passengers only lol.

I've transited through BKK twice in the last few months, and I really was not keen at all. Boarding is an absolute scrum, with pushing, shoving and everyone trying to be through the door first.
The airport itself is dreary. It reminds me of being inside an old factory, there's been no attempt to hide any of the pipework or wiring, so it's all just industrial and ugly rather than sleek and polished like SIN or HKG (IMO, YMMV)

Given the choice of connecting through HKG or SIN, it would be a decision based on which alliance I was flying with - if S* then SIN, if OW then HKG, because I think they are both very very good.

If BNE is Australia's best airport the others must be truly tragic!!

cheers skip

PS Yes SIN deserves it, I love the carpet, Better shopping than HKG, WTF relevance does DBO have, the shopping is much better at HID:cool:.

I love BKK airport. I really think it is a nice design and has wonderful atmosphere with a constant buzz around the airport. Sure it may have some flaws (like the gate areas) but all airports have their flaws and there is no such thing as a perfect airport.

I don't really try to rate airports but I would choose BKK, SIN and HKG as my favourite airports simply because if I am in one of those airports it usually means I am on holidays and a long way from work....

Which is what it is all about really. :D

SIN is definately the best airport I have had the pleasure of going to and am glad they won. If only Australian Intl airports could take an example from SIN...

1) The efficiency of the layout, transport(airtrain between terminals) and staff are great.
2) Staff are very friendly and only too happy to help.
3) The terminals, new T3 especially looks great.
4) The security screening at the gate is the best, all other airports should do it this way, cuts down on the bottle neck at immigration.
5) The vibe and atmosphere in the terminals is buzzy and exciting.

Plus their queues/ wait time for immigration/customs put most other airports, incl ICN and HKG to shame.
