QP Pizza - I've given it a good run, but my verdict is a thumbs down

OK, well, I've given it a good chance, but after 5 or 6 separate taste tests, I am officially giving my thumbs down to the QP pizza.

My main issue with it is the consistency - somehow it seems to be both dry and soggy at the same time. I'm also a bit disappointed in the general lack of toppings, but if they were well cooked I'd probably be OK with them being mostly pizza base.

I think it comes down to the fact that pizza isn't particularly well suited to sitting in a tray for any period of time after cooking, or more to the point, reheating.

Party pies, on the other hand ... are! Bring back the party pies, I say!!

I have also noticed that the pizza often seems to sit in the tray for some time after being brought out, while the party pies usually disappeared within minutes (the circling vultures!).

My tasting has all been in the SYD T2 QP, so I'd be interested to hear if it's any better elsewhere? (I have to say that Im a little concerned about how disappointed I am with this... ), but I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Cheers!
Mat.

The 'pizza' seems to only have flavourings (I would not describe as fillings) in the centre ~65%. Unless you can get at it when it comes out; the more flavored parts get appropriated by hungry (I presume) patrons in a very short time. The remaining square feet of crust just sits there as "the pizza has not been fully taken".

It might be of some service to discretely remove this dry (neo-)ring of pastry and bin it when you see it.

All I've ever wanted were the party pies :)

They had some nice chicken nugget type things a while back, they were ok too.

Even when you're the first to grab a slice, it often tastes the same as it does 15 mins later! I've had some that were very lukewarm even though they were just put out.

I suspect they're sometimes heated up and stored somewhere before being brought out.

The NPPPs (Neil Perry Party Pies) were better IMHO (and yeah I complained about them at times!) , but I do like that the QP is trying out different things.

I still haven't tried any of the "dishes of the night" in the J lounges. Will at some stage.

Solely in the interest of research, and to form my own opinion on the matter, I tried a few slices of pizza last time i was in the club (BNE). My overall impression is that it is ok when it first comes out, but doesn't have much staying power. It seems to go downhill quickly once it is served.

Hmmm, yeah, I have noticed the total lack of topping on some slices, and have also had it lukewarm straight out of the kitchen (and soggy, and dry ...)

Party pies, dim sims, spring rolls, nuggets, fish bits - they were all better than the pizza IMHO.

how hard is it to produce a semi decent pizza??? just buy friggin frozen McCain ones if they can't manage it themselves....

and are these specially made NP commerparty pies??cial most party pies i wouldn't touch, although if really hungry i will scoop out the "meat product" inside and eat the gravy/pastry...

I have tried about 5-6 varieties of pizza in the BNE and SYD lounges and so far have found 1 variety that is edible. I usually do not bother having any pizza.

When my mum makes pizza it tastes great. Then when it is put in the fridge and re-heated later it tastes even better. Mum has also frozen her pizza and have defrosted and re-heated it months later and it still tastes great.

I have a feeling the people supplying the pizza to QF have no idea what they are doing.

Please bring back the party pies and stuff this attempt at providing 'gourmet' food. Can someone start a petition? ;)

That's a good point, actually. I have had reheated pizza that was fine in the past - perhaps it has to do with the (lack of) toppings? When it's mostly pizza base, reheating probably doesn't work out as well?

I can only assume it's been reheated when it comes out of the kitchen anyway, given the temperature and lack of crispiness (is that a word?)

There's the solution. You need to help your mum start a business, get a name for herself and then prepare a tender. ;) :D Hey, you might be able to quit your job...

You can start by blaming around half the people here on this forum who were lambasting the ridiculousness of a premium airline lauding at best just some humble pies (no puns intended). Rather hypocritically, most are now panning the pizza and longing for the pies...

I have always been pro-pie ... when there were changes afoot, I was hoping they wouldn't disappear. I was very disappointed to see them go. I certainly don't need fancy food :)

Even if there was a bit of variety, but at least in the SYD T2 QP (the only QP I seem to be in at dinner time), this poor excuse for pizza is now the only hot evening food on offer (apart from soup).

If there's a petition, aim me towards it.

Come on now.We really didn't expect the party pies to be "enhanced"!:p:D:oops:

How about simply some fresh sandwiches- or even better, toasted sandwiches!

Again there were complaints, and again it went the way of the dodo.

At least in the J lounge you can make a fresh sandwich for lunch (there's enough ingredients there to make a sandwich that would rival a Dagwood Bumstead creation), but I really wonder how hard it could be for QF to keep the toaster on for the day or at least breakfast and lunch. (Except that a toaster on the whole day uses a stupid amount of electricity...)

Too late now. Wish we had done something similar 30-40 years ago but we knew nothing at the time and friends and family were only concerned about who's house looked the best than risk suggesting something that would make someone else more successful.

It wasn't me complaining. QF can stuff their slow cooked braised beef and wild mushrooms, stringy chicken something or other, pizzas etc.

Slow cooked ? We used to call that 'wet dish' in my hospitality days.

I think the pizza is alright! As long as you get it fast!

No way! I love the new J lounge offerings :) especially the slow cooked beef dish, you can finally get a decent hit of protein in the lounge instead of the usual fat carb fest.

All the fatties wanting pizza and pies can go down to the food court and grab a Krispy Kreme or 10 for dessert while they are at it :)

Well, firstly there is no J lounge in SYD T2, so that limits the options (I guess in my case I could call in at the J lounge in T3 on the way through, but then you don't have any T2 flight status, etc).

... and anyway, a party pie or two now and then a "fattie" (as you put it) does not make! (I think that comment is somewhat offensive to be honest)

I actually like the J lounge pizza =- though I have only had it at MEL. It is more akin to a traditional Napoli style pizza - a thinner crust with less topping - this is the sort I make for myself. The only annoyance is the need it seems to garnish with chilli flakes :(

What about the non fatties who want/like the pizza, pies or occasional Krispy Kreme :?:
