Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

They will likely want to wait until you are in the air and have certainty on your LAX arrival time before rebooking
I ended up being rebooked onto an Alaskan flight with a 3.5 hour layover in LAX. Does/should Qantas re-accommodate onto non-Oneworld partners in these cases? There was a Delta flight with a shorter layover, but the Qantas staff member at baggage transfer in LAX said she couldn't do it.

The rebooking was pretty poorly handled - SYD F lounge told me cabin crew would advise details of my new flight, cabin crew told me there would be someone waiting in the aerobridge at LAX, pilot told us to check our apps, Qantas staff waiting at baggage claim told us to speak to staff at baggage transfer. There was a single Qantas staff member at LAX baggage transfer who was clearly frazzled and couldn't help much. LAX F lounge similarly couldn't help. Perhaps the question to ask is, who should/could have helped in this situation?

WP PE>J QF73 SYD-SFO on 7-Sep
Was J8 this morning but now J0 and no text so not looking promising. Have selected upgrade to gate, fingers crossed there's a chance..

QF7 SYD-DFW has been cancelled tomorrow (7 sept) so i imagine the remaining flights to the US will be near capacity?
Ahh, probably explains why Y went from being reasonably quiet to suddenly full.

Bulkhead PE and a few hours in the SYD Flounge should make it enjoyable enough 🙂

I've had several op-ups and a few points upgrades. I would say points upgrade Y to J success was 50%. This was on PER-MEL or PER-SYD flights. On one occasion with a re-routing WLG- MEL-PER to WLG-SYD-PER, within 1 hour of departing WLG and 2 hour layover in SYD, I succeeded in an upgrade on points from SYD to PER. Recently , two op-ups in a week. It had happened once before.

Upgrade from Premium Economy Saver to Business on Tuesdays QF73 at T-59 as WP. Loads were showing J9 prior to notification, and are still showing J9. A little surprised by the early notification as I thought they may hold space given recent cancellations on QF7/8, but they must have that covered.

Usually fly on the A380 so not intimately familiar with the best seats - any downsides to 1K?

it’s a very good seat, private and a slightly wider footwell (although i have no problems with the regular footwells on QF).

I’ve requested J to F on QF2, as SG but will be Plat afew weeks before flight. Is it worth calling as Plat to ask for upgrade, or makes no difference and should just wait for email, or lack of, closer to time?

You don't call for upgrade but only through MMB. You could cancel original and reapply when WP but not sure if it would make any difference. I'd expect it to know you've gone up a level. But this is Qantas I guess
