I ended up being rebooked onto an Alaskan flight with a 3.5 hour layover in LAX. Does/should Qantas re-accommodate onto non-Oneworld partners in these cases? There was a Delta flight with a shorter layover, but the Qantas staff member at baggage transfer in LAX said she couldn't do it.They will likely want to wait until you are in the air and have certainty on your LAX arrival time before rebooking
The rebooking was pretty poorly handled - SYD F lounge told me cabin crew would advise details of my new flight, cabin crew told me there would be someone waiting in the aerobridge at LAX, pilot told us to check our apps, Qantas staff waiting at baggage claim told us to speak to staff at baggage transfer. There was a single Qantas staff member at LAX baggage transfer who was clearly frazzled and couldn't help much. LAX F lounge similarly couldn't help. Perhaps the question to ask is, who should/could have helped in this situation?
