Qantas Increases Legroom Charges; Changes to Row 4 selection on most 737 flights

Not surprised that between T24 and T80 that there's still a lot of Row 4 seats available.

$35 is a bit steep, but then again - it's Qantas, they somehow need to pay their executives their ridiculous unjustified bonuses.

I just noticed the a332 also have the
first row as paid.

I was seeing what options I could flow forward to tomorrow and how full everything was so i took a look at QF453 (a332) and noticed it was also paid first row.

I wonder if row 23A/C/J/K are also considered extra leg room.

In reality there is no row 23 bulkhead seat or Row 24 bulkhead seat on a QF A330 that has "extra legroom".

In actuality you have about 6cm less footroom than that for the seats behind.

Oh I'm aware having tried 23A on the A333 to tokyo the other trip. Conclusion was that it wasn't great if you like stretching out, and if you have a shadow it makes it worse with the unmovable armrest.

23 Centre seems a little bit better than 23A/C though.

I agree with the first half, but disagree with the second. I don't think QF's qualification requirements are higher than most competing airlines.

I'm sure there's some exceptions (you book very expensive flex tickets often on a revenue-based program or a lot of heavy co-brand credit card spending)

You're actually right now that I've done some research (e.g. see What is the easiest way to get Oneworld Sapphire - the definite answer - Fly for Points)

I keep forgetting that I don't do any long haul anymore, and doing the golden triangle routes are a slog to get to WP.

And row 4 secured.

Ill see how my other upcoming flights are and how full row 4 gets pre T-24
i suppose for those who are willing to stump up the extra dollars, there will now be very little competition in the T80 hunt to do so

I had figured at T-24 checkin time they didn't go to freebies?

on the Red-E deals (think $129-$169) that the extra cost is hardly an impost on the customer, if you've already paid the dirt cheapest fare to begin with

Afaik all QF seats become free at check in including emergency exit.

T-80 just ticked over for a flight on Tuesday.

First time experiencing the new cost for row 4, which I didn't take up. Row 5 is close enough to the front door me.

So much of the much publicised lounge upgrades. Amazing how other airlines can reno their lounges faster than it takes Qantas to swap out of few bits of coughpy furniture.
The Australian way: run it to the ground and then it takes five years and ten million $ to redo everything.
An alternative way would be to maintain the facilities as you go but that would require operating budget. AJ could not have comprehended those words in a board meeting...

I had my first flight this morning since the changes. SYD-MEL. I got 5F at T-80. 4 D,E,F were selectable for a charge. A-C were occupied plus a shadow according to EF.
I was 1 minute late for OLCI at T-24 and 4F was taken. 4D and E were available to select for free. I prefer window seats and 5E was still empty - and remained so - so I stayed put. But at least it’s good to know that as SG, there’s an outside chance of row 4 for free at precisely T-24

Have we worked out if the price offer for row 4 at T-80 is the same or is it a victim of “dynamic pricing”?

I appreciate the further confirmation that Row 4 remains free once checkin commences - presumably only for those with SG or WP

I'm actually now second guessing myself whether it was free or still green with a $ sign at OLCI. I was still half asleep when I checked in. I'm flying again next weekend. No doubt others will chime in with data points.

Probably against my better judgment, stumped up row 4 on this Thursday's PER-BNE redeye, as I really need to get some semblance of sleep on QF's woefully inadequate 738 overnight offering. Have got the upgrade request in though - if I do later get the upgrade confirmation, can I expect a refund for the extra payment for the now not needed row 4 seat?
