ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Even though Citi is now useless for paying ATO their new November rule of no points for cards more than $10,000 in credit is something you may need to watch for all other credit cards you may be using. That new rule would be easy to get programmed into the Big Four Banks systems.
Despite 6 cards in our coughnal now being off limits I find that we still have more than a dozen that still work for paying ATO provided I include my sons cards. With Qantas allowing easier access to family transfers you can now load all the family cards if you need to do that.
A big part of this points game is being flexible so when changes occur you are one or two steps ahead.
I have not been the person to churn cards as you never know when you might wish you had that card to use. Instead I have tried to increase credit limits and that has been helpful when some large bill has to get paid.

Minor point, but the $10,000 in credit thing is not a new rule. May have been unenforced but it's been there a long time.

Social media gives other banks the opportunity to join in on 'enhancing' your credit cards.
i had the pleasure of meeting a bank executive who ran their social media amongst other things. They are watching and assessing lots of things every day of every week.

The new app which works on iOS 7 has been out since 1 or 2 October. Working fine here.

Pretty sure that was my problem - held off on the iOS 7 but updated the app which in hindsight appears to have been released just to fix bugs with the new apple system.

It is making me wonder where my last 2 texts went when I did not receive them from Citi.
I may have to call them so maybe I can re-load my Velocity points with the bonus that is running.

Not bugs really. Developers were using a means to lock an app to a device that was unsupported. Citi had over 3 months to fix it (with a beta from June) but chose not to. I blame Citi, not Apple.

FWIW in my opinion they all want the business
They buy the points and it is a cost no different to wages or electricity
It is costed into their budgets
No one of the big 4 IMHO will make a major change because they have educated people to the benefits of LOYALTY programs and people now know the rules so they have a tiger by the tail
There are still plenty of people who say " I don't worry about all that rubbish" who don't understand it who I guess are the cream for the Banks
It is so easy to get another Credit Card and they are all so keen to pinch each others business so who jumps first ??????
Look at WW EDR Qantas CC, what a boomer for them, loyalty to the prodfuct, push sales of their fuel, make money because people double dip with the card. Are they going to pull the pin ???....IMHO not when there are so many other things attached to it
IMO whilst they are making money there will be a token adherence to the "business expenses" issue provided people are not grossly stupid about what they do or how they do it.

Don't forget that Velocity and Qantas are tied to many and they benefit enormously from the sale of the points

Hoefully for many years to come we are on a winner THE ONLY FEAR is a DEVALUING of effective point value by the Airlines which is the bigger worry

My Citi SMS finally came through on my mobile almost 24 hours later when I was out shopping.
We live in crazy times but I won't phone them.

Terrible news received this am from my accountant....wanted to know which bank account to direct the tax refund to,,,,!

Slightly off topic but it appears that Citi ARE tightening up on their Ts & Cs, and not waiting until Nov 1. Received zero points for an insurance payment last week whereas previously these have gone through OK.

Citi cards will enhance themselves out of existence if they carry on at this rate.

Got my latest statement and only 132 points on a $961 bill. Included on the bill is a monthly payment to Zurich for income protection and just over $400 to Energy Australia. Although a long term Ciitbank credit card customer I'm at the end of my tether with them. They really are a mess. I hate their Phillipines call centre, closing down the Citibusiness Gold and foisting some Signature Visa card on us, the $49 annual charge so your points can go to QFF, forcing the OTP system on us which is fine while you are in Australia, not so good o/s. It's just typical of Citi that their OTP app doesn't work on IOS7. I read now that when they fix the app, Cardholders will have to re-apply for OTP.

As a long term customer I don't have time to be chasing all this stuff up. I'll have to make time though to start switching all my direct debits from Citibank to other cards. And then looking for a new card to replace Citi.

So long as you paid it with a card its ok.....I think they call it credit card points recycling. Look at it as a similar thing to buying a visa gift card with your credit card and then depositing the funds on the gift card back into the bank account that pays off the credit card at the end of the month.....points accumulation:)

Citibank make it hard to do business with them. I guess they only want dumb bunnies as customers.

That's annoying.

Everywhere you look, Citi has been enhancing their products - but the annual fee remains the same !

I am sure most (if not all) of us has some forms for insurance payments.

This will throw a spanner into the planning.

Wish there is another entrant offering VISA-linked KF / Asia miles. That will kill off Citibank products for sure.

Where is "market competition" ?

This dumb bunny picked up a couple of points using Citi on 2 cards. I just use the cards for business stuff and it has been ok.
I still do not call them!

Well kpc I don't know if a tax refund is good or bad news.

I now get a quarterly tax bill for my self run Super Fund so I am on a roll (or perhaps a role). I did bag a couple of winners by investing it myself.

Yes Legroom I'm at the stage where I'm not fussed about 1.25 point to the $1 or 1:1. Would be just as happy like some of my other cards where the points get automatically credited to QFF each month.
Digressing we pulled out of Singapore KF due to their 3 year time limit on using points. And with Emirates redemptions for goods.. the last time I looked they had to be posted from somewhere like Dubai.
KISS might be my new approach (Keep It Simple Stupid)
