The complimentary passes allow you to be treated as a QP member for the day, the only difference is they are applicable for use at QPs only, conditions are as per each lounge access guide on Qantas .com, ie:

Qantas Club Member
Next onward flight that day must be a Qantas^, Emirates^ or Jetstar Airlines+ flight number.
One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member on the same flight.

I'm unable to offer a definitive answer as there are a few different types of Qantas Club passes, each with slightly different terms and conditions.

However in most cases, and as markis10 suggested, access using a complimentary pass is granted based on guidelines set for Qantas Club members.

The best reference regarding opening hours, locations and eligibility conditions for each lounge can be found using this link: Qantas Club Lounges | Qantas.

Hope this helps.

Jolly good. Can you post the RR ref without much trouble? I'm giving both my Comp Passes to friends who may want to use them when flying EK with me in a few weeks and it would be good to have some 'ammunition' in case the lounge guardian takes the T&Cs on the pass literally.

If not, no drama, I'll have a trawl myself.

I agree with RooFlyer. Nowhere in that thread did Red Roo confirm that one of these passes gets you entry. I would argue that Red Roo's response in that thread is decidely on the fence.

I didn't realise a complimentary pass also gave you access to premium check-in lanes, additional baggage allowance, priority waitlist etc. I was under the impression that a Qantas Club complimentary pass was merely for lounge access and nothing more.

Ahhh, I also thought it was only for the lounge access. And with thanks to everyone, I'm not sure I know yet whether I can access the Qantas lounge when flying Emirates... Does anyone at all know?

I have a QP pass with conditions "valid for a single visit to the Qantas Club or Qantas operated international business lounges... Your next onward flight that day must be on a Qantas or Jetstar flight number. No guest allowed... Not valid in Qantas Domestic Business Lounges, oneworld alliance lounges, partner airline and associated lounges and are subject to the Qantas Club Terms and Conditions."

But according to the Qantas website, "Qantas Club members will continue to have access to Qantas operated International Business Lounges* and will be welcomed at the Emirates Business lounge in Dubai when their next onward flight that day is with Qantas or Emirates."

I find this all quite confusing. If I fly out of DXB on a QF number/ EK metal flight, can I use this pass for the Emirates lounge in Dubai?

No, because the pass is only usable at Qantas Clubs.

As I previously mentioned, there are a few different types of Qantas Club passes. Each have slightly different terms and conditions, however they should be listed on the pass itself.

It seems your pass is valid for Qantas Clubs and Qantas operated International Business Lounges only. Please do send me a private message with the details should you require further clarification.
