Interesting article about Australia, the USA and Japan lobbing the UK to reconsider leaving the EU.

''The UK attracts strong Australian investment partly due to our long-term links but also because of the UK's position in the EU market,'' Dr Emerson wrote. ''Australian businesses … use the UK as a platform for trade and investment in the broader EU market.''

If that is the case and the UK leaves the EU, will that mean QF go back to FRA?

I don't think it will happen. But if it does, UK will still have very strong trading ties with the EU that I am sure can be leveraged.

Personally I'm not worried either way. The EU really doesn't bring huge benefits to the UK (I would suggest the main benefits flow the other way!), but the simplification of travel and trade is of course helpful.

But regardless of whether the UK is in the EU or not... It won't affected where Qantas flies to.

Not sure I see the connection?

How I see it, if most Aussie businesses direct their business via the UK to facilitate business on the European mainland. Why would they have offices in the UK when it would make more sense to conduct business directly on the mainland if the UK is not around in the EU?

One example, if your business imports to the EU, you might direct your import to the UK first and forward it on if it is conducive for your purposes.
