A year ago I moved back to Oz. I had the thought in the back of my mind that I might try for platinum in both Qantas and Virgin on the back of a fairly heavy international travel schedule. Getting platinum on Qantas was relatively easy due to 4 business class return trips to NY each year, but Virgin was proving to be a bit harder, but a last minute business class flight on Virgin Atlantic to LHR got me over the line with 2 weeks to spare. :D

Now the real question is which one will prove the be the most rewarding. Are the complimentary fare upgrades on Virgin useful?

I am double Platinum soon to be P1 with QF. I find the VA upgrades useful for BNE PER now that we have A330's. With VA though you need 8 sectors to maintain Platinum with QF its 4. Good Luck

I'm double Platinum also (along with a fair few AFF'ers). Undoubtedly the comp upgrades are one of the biggest advantages of VA plat. Other than that there's not much difference IMO between Plat and Gold.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the introduction of VA Platinum lounge as there's night and day between the QF J Lounges (esp SYD) and VA's current offering.

god yes, use them going to Perth - VA J between Perth and Mel/SYD is brilliant.
