All Qantaslink flights to depart SYD T3 from August 15th 2013

Here is an article from the QantasLink "Spirit" Inflight Magazine for Autumn 2013:
"QantasLink is planning a move of terminals from Sydney Airport's T2 to the main T3 Terminal used by Qantas mainline services. The move will provide considerable benefits for QantasLink travellers using Sydney Airport giving easier access for connections on other Qantas Domestic flights and access for Qantas Club members to the Club Lounge and Business Lounge in T3.

The enhanced customer experience for QantasLink passengers will also allow for more streamlined operations for the airline. A team from the airline's engineering, catering, ground operations and customer experience divisions have been working together to find the best way to integrate QantasLink's operations into T3. The integration is planned to take place during the second quarter of 2013."

Any info on the T2 Lounge in that article?

"Suit jerks"... wow.

Just because we fly in suits for work and access the J Lounge.

I for one will be glad I don't have to endure bogans in T2 in short shorts, singlets and thongs.

Because they'll all be in T3 now! :)

Re: Farewell QF 81/82 run SYD-ADL-SYD [Sat 13 -Sun 14 April]

In Sydney and the transfer bus has moved to gate 15, threw me a bit. Waiting for bus now.

Re: Farewell QF 81/82 run SYD-ADL-SYD [Sat 13 -Sun 14 April]

[arrived at] Gate 17 - that should make new gate 15 for transfers easier.

I wonder what the new waiting area is like compared to the old one?

I wonder what the new waiting area is like compared to the old one?

It is simply the gate 15 waiting area on the main concourse level.

Scan BP, down escalators & stair, then outside to the waiting bus.

Some memories for me there, walking past the old QP (now gate 16 waiting area).

Hopefully there'll be more than one gate, perhaps even just 1A, 1B, 1C etc...

Still no updates to my flights later in the year.

"Construction for QantasLink’s gate within Terminal 3 is underway, with the project scheduled for completion in the second half of 2013."

Somewhat vague...could be July or closer to December...or in between.

It will take about 12 weeks for construction, but obviously it can take longer.

As indicated, the gate 15 waiting area was being used for transfer to T1 on Saturday. Full access to T3 shops etc while waiting.

I'd expect the gate 1 waiting are will still be used to Bus people to their DHx's ... in which case, no specific gates.

To me T2 QantasLink had a huge advantage of no lineup for check-in, yet I see the following quoted. I am not sure how the T2 times will be reduced

"QantasLink Executive Manager John Gissing said operating QantasLink and Qantas Domestic flights from the same terminal was set to deliver big benefits to business and leisure travellers flying to or from Sydney and beyond.

. Mr Gissing said regional passengers would also have access to Sydney airport’s exceptional Terminal 3 facilities including innovative check-in technology, a refreshed retail and dining precinct as well as premium lounge access.
“Terminal 3’s Faster, Smarter Check-in services will significantly reduce check-in times for QantasLink customers - a huge benefit for the growing number of business travellers between regional areas and Sydney,” he said.

Anything that avoids T2 makes things easier IMO. Can't see T3 will take any longer, always very quick for us. I will say a farewell to the T2 lounge in June.

God me too.... I hate the budget terminal... Full of bogans and fast food.
T3 is a clear winner in Syd.

Loving that I get J lounge with QFlink from Sydney now :)

Not sure who said that this move would happen in June, as the Qantas release says only "second half of 2013", but everybody will be saying farewell to the T2 lounge because Qantas will be shutting it down after QantasLink moves to T3!

MY last Qantas Link trip from T2 will be in June. I did not suggest the move was happening in June?

Therefore, I will say farewell to the T2 lounge in June as per my original post!

Given the initial staff memo indicated late April, not sure even June was mentioned but not surprised, the bus move to gate 15 was behind schedule, and as for the QP closing, pretty much surmised that in post 1, QF has never kept a QP open in a JQ only terminal, HTI for instance.

I suppose it will be too much to hope for an airside corridor between T3 and T2 so that JQ passengers (as, unfortunately, I occasionally am) can use the QP.

Probably cheaper to keep the lounge open :D
