JQ Classic Award Changes [up to 20% less points cost]

I made a dummy booking on 3K, and it states that 20kg of baggage is included at the review stage of the booking.

That's certainly positive and increases the value.

There are also some interesting routes out there Sin-Mel being one. Before (booked under QF code) classic award was same pts and surcharges as QF metal, and on A380 QF trumped. Now (in Y at least) the preference is less obvious. QF is now also on A330 and the extra cost is $39 sgd + 6000 pts more than Jetstar for meal/IFE. Of course on this route EK has $120 less in surcharges so probably trumps both!

Has anyone seen any business class availability (e.g. MEL-SIN, AKL-SIN) bookable on JQ on qantas.com after these changes? I am just seeing n/a under the Business Class column for all dates that I try (maybe I haven't tried hard enough)... was looking to see if the discount applied to Starclass as well...

I'm sure you aren't missing out on much. Given my experience in that Y+-masqueraded-as-J class, it would have to be 20% less than the cost of a QF Y+ seat for me to be interested.

What am I doing wrong?

Email recieved to verify the JASA points downgrade, in which the example I wish to test/use being: Melbourne ---> Honolulu = 28,800 points + $213 tax (one way, with baggage).

Tried the jetstar website, no option to use ff points to make a booking

Been trying different options (1 way / return) with qantas website: 127,000+ points for a 1 way trip!

Test dates:

Leave Melb on Jan 3rd 2014
Arrive Melb on: Sun Jan 19th, anytime before midnight!

We currently have around 130,000 points combined between the 2 of us (i'm on 110,000 ish, waiting for ANZ insurance / woolies points / monthly cc bills).

You still go through the QF website to make QFF award bookings even though you're flying on JQ.

$420 return + 60,000 odd points for a $1200ish ticket it not good value personally.

I'd be waiting for a Jetstar sale and booking the flights for about $800 return, although Hawaii sales have been very limited

Interesting these redemptions, and how they are managed in the QF environment. I cannot look for SIN-DPS or SIN-DPS redemptions online (when selecting SIN, DPS is not an option, when selecting DPS, SIN is not an option), yet entering DPS-KUL is fine, and brings up availability on DPS-SIN (-KUL) :!:

I've got a JQ QF award booking, and was wanting to link the booking to my Jetstar, and also see what seats the kids and I have been allocated, so I can allocate a seat to Mrs Here2go, who is on a paid booking starter fare, next to us. Is there anyway I can do this before checkin?

How soon is the flight?

If more than a day or two you can do a dummy booking to see what seats are available.

18 October. I know there are seats available when booking for Mrs Here2go. Booking award seats is just painful! However, with timings and maximising family time in Brisneyland, JQ makes more sense than QF.

Yay for the forum search tool...

I was looking for a HNL-SYD flight for my partner expecting it to be 36,000pts + taxes (approx $139)

I kept seeing 28,800pts + taxes and thought WOW... my lucky day...

I totally forgot about this change earlier in the year...

Whilst it is not me flying, the 7,200pts I get to keep is a bonus (plus no need to pay for luggage as 20kg is included)

:-)
