CitiBusiness Gold 'no longer available'

There are additional benefits on the Signature which outweigh the small difference (0.25%) in the earn rate given my annual spend is <$100k

Anyone know what the cap limit is for the points on this card? I forgot, initially it was 80k now it's like 250k?
What happens if you go over?

It's 250k points per annum, which equals $200k spend per annum.

If you go over you stop earning points until your membership year rolls over and the cap resets...

I just got off the phone to citibank. They mentioned that the card will eventually be cancelled even if your expiry is three years away, but will need to give 3-6 months notice. I suspect that they will offer good terms for the new card too :)

I was tempted to upgrade to the select, but I think I might just wait it out.

Does anyone remember what the Citibusiness Gold transfer options were?

All I remember is QFF at 1:1 but the rest elude me!

Yes, that's correct. Effective 1.25 / 0.83 / 0.83 points per $1 for QF / SQ / VA.

Are there situations where VA & SQ would be preferable over QF when taking into account the fairly large difference?

If you have status with the others and prefer flying them as opposed to QF and you didn't have the income to get a better earning Visa/MC (e.g. Citi Signature/Select). Really, though, I can't see why you'd have got this card and not used it for QF earn.

This is exactly what I am hoping for, preferably a cheap deal for the select!!

I have a Select which allows me to dump to SQ or VA at 1.33 points per $ spend or CX at 1 point per $ spend as per the QF option. I like the ability to chose who has the best flight options and then dump the points accordingly which are usually transferred in 48 hours and the seats still available more often than not.
We like to travel as a four in J / F which is often hard to do long haul. I have made regular use of the Citi Rewards scheme buying the seats at a spend rate of $58,000 per $1,000 ticket price - not an efficient use of points but enables us to get where we want to go together.

It was meant in regards to the CitiGold Biz. 1.25 QFF vs 0.83 SQ/VA per $1.

No problemo - I was aware your figures were for the biz card.
Mistakenly took Yoz's post as being interested in a card no longer available.
Saw you are also following closely Westpac's June changes which loooks at first glance to be a change in direction, though the devil is always in the detail yet to be revealed.

Cheers

Still great information to have if they're going to phase out the Citibusiness Gold in the future :)

I'm an AFF newbie glad to have any information which may be useful in the future :D

My FF trainer wheels will be staying on for a long time also - I am also learning a thing or two every day and still just scratching the surface.

VA - not really, unless perhaps status or when you can find an award flight you want with VA but not QF, and don't mind the worse transfer (and hence burn) rate.

SQ - most definitely, for a couple of reasons.

First of all, SQ's burn rate is much better than QF's, so you may well work out neutral - or, sometimes, even in-front - when transferring to/redeeming on SQ, despite the worse earn rate. For example, MEL-x-LHR is 128k QFF points in J on QF, but it's only 86k KF points in J on SQ. Taking into account the earn rate, both work out to roughly $103k of spend on the card. And I'd argue that SQ's product and schedule (out of MEL at least) is better.

Second, availability. SQ's award seat availability absolutely destroys QF, especially when combined with waitlisting. So you'll often be able to find a SQ award seat when QF is offering you nada, zip, zilch.

Really, though, I can't see why you'd have got this card and not used it for QF earn.

Generally, you'd be right - if you want SQ or VA points you'd be better off with another card. That said, some people may have an annual spend low enough that they can't justify more than one card, but yet still want the flexibility of earning into QF and/or VA and/or SQ - in which case CBG fits the bill nicely.

Well I have CBG and credit to SQ, I also have a Krysflyer Amex. The better cards with better earn rates are the more expensive Citibank cards but they are very expensive and of course Amex can't be used everywhere. I must admit I am seriously considering replacing both with Select but that fee is just over my pain threshold. For me the SG earn is 50% better than QF so earn rate about the same, as wafliron states availability is better, I like the product more, their network is better for where I want to go and doesn't CBG slug you an extra fee to transfer to QFF?

Citibank, if you are listening, I would certainly listen to a deal on an upgrade from CBG.
