Well I have CBG and credit to SQ, I also have a Krysflyer Amex. The better cards with better earn rates are the more expensive Citibank cards but they are very expensive and of course Amex can't be used everywhere.

Another very valid reason to hold a CBG for SQ points, given how much cheaper it is (was?) than Signature (let alone Select).

doesn't CBG slug you an extra fee to transfer to QFF?

Nope - no fee. Only downside is that you have to ring to transfer to QFF - but that's hardly the end of the world.

Yes, but I'm certainly hoping that Citi give us a good deal to upgrade from CBG for similar fee to current, preferably to Select of course, though that would depend on the offer.! CBG fee certainly cheaper, mine was in itself an upgrade from another Citi card so I suspect I'm already getting it slightly cheaper than others but haven't checked (and now can't).

I'd be astounded if you got a "good" upgrade offer to Select - they're very judicious with annual fee discounts on that card, and it's also a big step up from CBG. Signature is a distinct possibility thouth - why not ring and ask?

It was $149/year before it got canned. Mine is $89/year, but I can't recall why... I think maybe the annual fee was just lower when I signed up (I've had it for like 6 years).

... And the annual fee is still $149 for me, I've had it for 4 years - it has just fallen due again - you're lucky you get it for $89. Has anyone called Citi to see what they can offer? I'm eligible for the Select at $350 but I'm not sure I want to cough up for that at this stage.

I haven't paid even my reduced fee for at least the three years - have you called up to see if they will give you a fee waiver? IIRC I've just been blunt with them - e.g. "I can't justify $89 to keep this card anymore - can you waive the fee?". I think last time around I even forgot to call up before it was due - called them a few weeks after it had been charged and they gave me a credit.

CitiGold I assume? I assume you must like the QF/SQ/VA flexibility of CBG? As there's only a really narrow range of spend where $149/year for CBG is worth it but $350/year for Select isn't.

How are you eligible to get the Select for $350? Is that through some sort of professional association?

Of course number 3 son (chartered acc and auditor) tells me that the CitiBusiness card is fee free to everyone! How so I ask? Reply: "How many free bottles of wine does it take to get your $149 back?" Me thinks I taught him well. JV

Call Citibank and ask them to waive your annual fee.

Has worked for me for the last 3 years.

Although - they are mostly relatively expensive restaurants that sell $20 bottles of wine for $60 and have pumped up prices for the food. Not really "free".

Last year, when I tried to get an annual fee waiver, they wouldn't budge, but they credited me 5,000 reward points instead, which I was fine with at the time. I called a few days ago before having seen any replies and true enough, they waived the fee, citing my being a Citigold customer and always paying on time as the reason for the waiver. Happy with that.

You're quite right about the flexibility - I don't like being locked into any one particular carrier's program and 1.25pts/$ really makes it an attractive proposition. I guess it remains to be seen what they will do with the product now that it's discontinued. In the meantime, am happy using it as my everyday card.

As others have suggested, I am a Citigold customer - they are entitled to the Select for $350 and Signature for $250.

The select is so worth $350. I understand the CBG is more flexible for QF, but given the extras the Select is heads and shoulders above

Just took a quick look at the Citibank Select - I believe the earn rate on the CBG is 1.25QFF/$1 while the Select looks to be 1QFF/$1 which is a pretty significant difference no?

Having said that. You can get 1.33 KrisFlyer Miles which I seem to recall is more valuable than the QFF points?

All correct. You'd only take Select over CBG for QF points if you will exceed the CBG 200k points/year points cap (and even then you're probably better off with a much cheaper 1 QF points per $1 uncapped card, like EDR WOW).

The "value" in Select is the massive 1.33 KrisFlyer points per $1 on the non-QF version (plus options for VA and CX, of course), which is unmatched for a Visa/Mastercard card. I guess how much you value each FF currency is a bit of a YMMV thing, but personally I regard SQ points as being at least 50% more valuable than QF points.

G'day Burmans,

My comments were of course "tongue-in-check". (Why isn't there an icon for this:?:)

I agree that many wines are heavily over-priced in restaurants so I prefer to get them for free rather than be ripped off.
As far as expensive restaurants; this is often the case. However, not always - for example around Chinatown there is Golden Century, East Ocean and Din Tai Fung; the last of which always allow me to double-dip by scanning my QF card as well as the free plonk:D. Works for me!

"You'll earn Reward points every time you use your Citibank Credit Card, which you can choose to redeem for a great range of items and vouchers, including Qantas Frequent Flyer points. Earn 1 reward point for every $1 spent – Giving you more points sooner"

Strange - as far as I know the earn rate is 1.25:$1 on this card.. wonder how old those promotional materials are...

Where did you drag this up from? This doesn't even seem to be the CitiBusiness card, but rather an old Gold card product.

I'm not sure there's any point speculating on this - looks like a very old website as the Platinum card is now trash and the Gold card hasn't existed for many years.

From the terms and conditions

To be eligible for the $75 Ticketek Reward Dollars you must apply for a Citibank credit card via this link and be approved by May 30, 2008, and use your card for a purchase or cash advance by June 30, 2008

I suspect this bit may come into play

† To be eligible for the $75 Ticketek Reward Dollars you must apply for a Citibank credit card via this link and be approved by November 2008, and use your card for a purchase or cash advance by November 30, 2008.

i.e. The page is just a bit of debris on the side of the information superhighway.....
