I booked 2 for my wife and myself and 2 for my daughter and son in law recently for february use.

The ones for my wife and myself came out immediately. the ones for my daughter and son in law took a day or 2

Strange but might be something to do with not being the QFF holder ??

The booking process may flag an issue and require manual intervention, often for nothing significant, inducing delays.

I just booked a domestic JASA and the points were deducted immediately.

I called up QFF while I was waiting in the terminal yesterday, after being put on hold for a few minutes they said that their systems were having issues on 5 Dec when I made my booking. JASA was quickly processed and points / $ were properly deducted.

tbh I think I may have got a good deal? 360SC, four legs in J for 48k points + $170. Before I phoned, I spoke to one of the people at the assistance counter in CBR, she seemed to think I owed them another $500 and that was the reason my ticket was in limbo...

quick question. just booked a return MEL-syd asa. should I have booked it as two one ways? any advantage in two one ways if I need to cancel or change the return? the fare was simple double the 16k and double the taxes. if I cancel does that mean the second leg is fully refundable for exactly half?

As for cancelling a "partially flown" ASA, it really depends upon the fare rules.

For most Domestic OZ business ASA's the following applies: (http://www.qantas.com.au/regions/amadeus/minirules/AUAUBUS/)

Cancellations (including no show)

Fare is fully refundable. Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award: If this is a Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award and the itinerary has been partially flown, then a proportion of the money and points originally used to obtain the award will be refunded to the applicable Member. The proportion refunded will be the remaining ticket value as allocated by Qantas as a proportion of the original ticket value. Any refund or credit is the Australian dollar price. Note: If this fare is booked as part of the Qantas Business Class Sale, Global Business Class Sale, Domestic Business Companion Sale, Two or more Sale, the fare is non-refundable.

(This can vary - always check and keep a copy during the booking process)

thanks Serfty. I made some enquiries and it seems this is fully flex and so half points and half tax refunded. Return can be changed provided same discount ASA fare is available (unlikely on day of departure). So can either refund or move.

no service fee as premium (service fee only for economy). But as they said - if they can't find other availability i can just cancel and get my money back - so that would already be $89 towards another fare of the day.

That FASA may have had fare rules that said no charge, however not all do, be it F or J, as always its e fare rules that dictate, not the class of travel, take a look at FASAs ex LHR as an example with some fares offering F travel with no refunds changes etc.

I recently booked a FASA SYD-HKG. The fare rules state no cancellation fee except for flights arriving into / origination from Hong Kong or Bangkok, in which case a $350 cancellation fee applies.

Does anyone have any idea why a different rule / fee would apply specifically to Hong Kong and Bangkok?

I can't answer your question other than 'because they can' but I have had multiple J/FASAs HKG/BKK-SYD which don't have that cancellation fee. Seems to be more prevalent with bookings ex-Aus.

Fair enough - it seems the underling "service fee" regimen has changed.

Every fare booked may have different rules - always take a copy (.pdf, .mdi etc.) as when booking another maybe next week they may be different.

I am looking at a JASA SYD-NRT in the future.9-12 months out most JASAs for 2 are~ 500000 points each.Yet good availability of AA milesAAvers for 2 at 45000 miles.
When I look at just 1 JASA there are a few days available at 106,000 points.These are virtually all when no AA milesAAver awards are available.
Very strange.
And taxes on AA $7.50

You may well be right k3nnis, but I think I'll go with "because they can" Luckily it's of no consequence to me - I wasn't trying to cancel, just noticed the fee and was wondering why HKG/BKK got singled out.
