re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Just found a weird quirk with late in the day indirect JASAs not appearing in the search results (probably due to a large number of possible flight choices).

I was attempting to book BNE->CBR MEL->BNE as JASA and JQ1 SYD-BNE directly with Jetstar. When attempting this for the 15th of December, there were no indirect (MEL->SYD->BNE) JASAs late enough to connect after JQ1.

If I made the entire booking as an JASA (JQ1 as a YASA) then indirect connections did appear later in the day, but I didn't want to book JQ1 as an ASA as I wanted to earn SCs and there is no way to add a Plus pack.

Solution was to book JQ1 direct with Jetstar, then book a JASA BNE-(SYD)>CBR->SYD (14/12) MEL-(SYD)>BNE (15/12) - with the MEL-(SYD)>BNE segment too early to connect to JQ1 - then I changed the time via the Call Centre.

Problem solved, but what a painful way to do it (and all for 10SCs!).

However it does also suggest that there will be times when there is a "legal" JASA that isn't displayed, probably due to a limitation in the website booking engine which can only return a certain number of results and favours direct over indirect flights.

The only way I could see to test for these hidden JASAs is to use a trial multi-city booking from a different origin arriving late enough in the day that the QF booking engine supresses the flights that cannot connect e.g.

Want to fly late MEL-(SYD)-BNE, then try a multi-city booking such as CBR->MEL (arriving 2pm) then MEL-BNE. Suddenly all the late in the day JASAs will appear. Would be great if these were bookable without calling the contact centre. Does anyone know how?

Hi AFF'ers,

Just a quick one for anyone who's been to OOL. Do you know if QF862 (SYD-OOL) and QF779 (OOL-SYD) are the same plane or not (I'm guessing they are)? I'm planning a JASA status run there in the next few weeks and it would be a "seat of the pants" connection if they aren't!!!

Well Qantas only fly to sydney from OOL and I don't think they are in the habit of parking planes there all day for no reaon, so any flight to OOL is a turnaround of the same aircraft

No chance of that much travel before 28 Feb and points denuded :(

At $300 for 50 bottles of wine and 9500 QFF points that's a problem easily fixed at Epiqure ;). ( Wine glut, what wine glut???)

Don't talk to me about wine glut. Every time we go out for dinner with friends I take at least two bottles to try to reduce my wine glut. One large group I took six bottles to the restaurant! They all think I'm very generous as some of it is pretty good. I keep my Epiqure wine and Cellarmasters wine separate though ;)

50 bottles? $150 = 13 bottles x 2 = 26 bottles ?

Is it just me or is the QF award booking engine particularly flaky at the moment?
I'm getting some weird inconsistent results when trying to find award flights to the US. When looking at classic awards and nominating flexibility in dates you get the calendar which is supposed to show when seats are available on various days in each of the classes, depending on which ones you tick at the top and then refresh. I get that screen showing seats available and then none when you click through, and vice versa. Or sometimes it won't click through for you to select and it keeps just sending me back to the same page. Im trying to grab a number of award seats (4) at the 353 day mark so I'm playing around with both the classic and ASA options and its all over the place. The ASA booking engine is showing me a "from" points level at the top but then no actual flights listed below on some days. Its very annoying! As I'm in MEL a lot of the options (like DFW) involve connecting through SYD and I'm having all sorts of trouble getting the award engine to show me connecting flights even when I can see in Expert Flyer that there are U seats available.
I've tried both Chrome and IE and am getting the same kind of things in both so I dont think its browser specific.
I guess I will have to do phone bookings and argue with them about whether or not I have to pay the booking service surcharge but I just wondered if anyone else is finding the same thing?

cheers

Timmi

I was having a similar problem yesterday but put it down to using safari on the ipad. I switched to Chrome on the ipad and that behavior (spitting me back to the month view screen) stopped...

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Yeah it seems to have stopped the spitting back to month view issue but its still flaky as per my other comments. Anyway, at the 353 day mark they didnt release ANY J seats (only Y) for the flights I wanted so I had to get the Plat desk to release them for me, which they did, so 2 x J classic awards MEL-LAX have been booked. My DH managed to do the same thing yesterday for the day before so we are happy :)

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

What's the typical time for JASAs to be processed at the moment? I ordered one a few days ago and I can see the booking on the Qantas website, but no points or money have been deducted yet. I was also able to select the seats.
