Crew carry-on taking up PAX OHSB space

Maybe the CC should check their luggage other than the few things they would need during the flight. Of course that would mean them waiting amongst the great unwashed to collect their bags from the carousel.

Perhaps they could get priority tags. That might help that system work better.

My mistake. there was I thinking that I might have a choice of things to be annoyed with. Thank you for correcting us all. :p

Before the epiphany brought on by extracta's command, I used to be annoyed by cabin crew placing their carry on luggage in the bulkhead or emergency exit rows. There is already reduced space above these rows so it made it nigh on impossible to place my own carry on anywhere near me. Then upon disembarkation I found myself getting in everyone's way as I headed against the tide to recover my bag. On short flights I will typically not pick bulkhead unless I can stow under the seat in front. It would seem logical for cabin crew to place their luggage in the overhead lockers away from bulkheads and emergency exit. Clearly though I am wrong.

Obviously this no longer annoys me now...however I would appreciate a list of things that I am allowed to be annoyed about. :p

Is there any word in the dictionary that combines grace & sarcasm ?

I cannot think of one right now

I think it's unreasonable for them to be made to check in luggage. For many reasons most of which include why I don't check luggage.

I like flying in the exit row seats and as you say the overhead locker space is restricted and quite often when you get there they have all been filled. Leaving you in a position where you have to find an overhead locker further rear which causes a problem during disembarkation.

To alleviate that I now find locker space further forward as I am walking towards my seat and stow it there. Makes it easy to stow and easy to retrieve while moving forward on exit.

May I put in a request to disagree with your stated stance ?

If everyone were to do what you suggest as the wise thing to do, what would happen to the first 3 rows ?

New rules "under seat storage only" for the first 3 rows ???

If yes, I would like to see a ticket price differential for the first 3 rows, please

It would be unworkable on DOM sectors as the CC often change planes during the day and have a short turn around time,

I do know many do check a bag in for INT travel, I've seen them do it before..

It reflects poorly on the aircraft interior design (which is commissioned by the airline) if the crew have no designated storage space within this cabin.

Usually crew will place overhead towards the rear of J or Y depending on loadings but a 100% full flight is always a problem for cabin baggage and they need to stow it somewhere. Crew often seem to use the base of the coat cupboards (on widebodies).

I think in a 2-3 row J cabin having to place you bag at row 2 or 3 is not a huge issue (sure, I always prefer it directly above but in the scheme of things, not a biggie.)

From my seat in 1A yesterday I watched 4 or 5 crew with wheelie bags + that little bag on top + max allowed duty free stuffing their luggage in overhead bins above me and was very glad I waited to put my handbag in after that. However when my checked in luggage full of Christmas presents didnt arrive with me on the Saturday instead taking a side trip to Brisbane before being couriered to me on the Gold Coast 5 hours later, I can see why they wouldnt want to check anything in.
:o

Have to agree that CC baggage would be best places in cupboards, crew rests and towards the back of the aircraft. I realise people do sit at the back too, but CC baggage is definitely not appropriate above seats with already limited stowage.

I wonder if there is a policy on this that a CC member could share? I know we have a few on here.

Samh's question would be good for the Chicken or Beef thread....

There is no rule where crew put their bags. Some aircraft are better for stowages than others. Crew will generally put their bag near their door on wide-bodied aircraft. This also allows them to keep an eye on it especially at the end of the flight. I have seen passengers attempt to take crew bags (because they are tired not on purpose)

Crew may stow their larger bag away from their door, but the smaller bag, crew will place in a locker most likely near the galley they will be working from so they can access it easily during the flight.

As for checking bags in, domestic crew never check bags. International crew can check in a bag (for short trips though some don't) and it is tagged as a crew bag so it comes off first.

And yes, checked in crew bags can go astray too!!

Do you find small things to complain about at home. I am glad you are not my wife.

Tony,

Enter stage right;)

I am glad you are not my wife.

Interesting train of thought that would have you considering me being your wife.

Not sure whether to be flattered or worried.(Certainly relieved that I am to be spared that less than appealing prospect) :p

I'm sure Freud would have something to say about it.

To get back on topic, when you have just spent 553 hours on an aircraft over twelve months, personal comfort, including where one's carry on can be stowed (I don't check luggage in.) becomes relatively important. I have no desire to make someone else's journey uncomfortable by taking their luggage space, a course of action you advocate, I would simply prefer to have the space above my seat available if I don't have the option to stow under the seat in front of me.

The Crew should not put their bags in any area where pax do. End of.

And I would simply prefer to be seated next to someone attractive that smells good every time I fly. But I am normally disappointed.
I suspect that the person that gets to sit next to me is similarly disappointed as well.

In any case, I do not let it annoy me. I just sit back and watch a movie.

Just as a point of reference how much do you fly per year?

Oh and as an aside QF do rather look after me when I fly by providing an empty seat next to me so that I don't have to worry about sitting next to......well...errrr..someone like yourself. :p

This site is dedicated principally to two things:

- maximising the benefit and enjoyment of travel
- whinging about first world problems

All TH has done is raise an issue that affects him - I don't see why you are so concerned that he shouldn't be concerned about it.

And you still find reason to complain.

I suspect that your husband is the big winner there, as he does not have to sit next to you and listen to the whining.

Extracta you have entered this thread telling people what they should and shouldn't be annoyed about. I really don't care if you want to troll me but why not set up a separate thread and call it the extracta trolls TonyHancock thread. I'm happy to sit back and enjoy your humourless comments away from a thread where people are discussing their concerns about specific parts of airline travel.

My question about how much you travel is not based in having a dig at you. Some issues have more weight with some people than others. If I traveled into Melbourne from its South Eastern Suburbs by car every day I would be annoyed by the long traffic queues I would face. Fortunately I only have to make the journey a few times a year so the long delays are not at the top of my list of annoyances. Unfortunately I have to travel by air quite a bit, so yes, I do get annoyed by things that may not bother your good self.

What I don't do is dictate to you, or anyone else for that matter, what they should be annoyed about. Everyone is different.

From your posts I suspect you don't travel much, and that is fine we are all here to learn. I'm sure there would be things that annoy you that wouldn't bother me at all.

Your last three posts do no more than have a dig at me. I accept that my sarcasm, directed at you, early on in this thread was perhaps a touch over the top, and for that I apologise, but I don't particularly like being told what should and shouldn't annoy me.

I didn't start this as a separate thread, it was split off from another thread where I made the comment in post one. The issue is an annoyance, but not one that would cause me to start a separate thread.
