Double SC's - A mere Marketing tool or Doom for WP?

maybe Qantas are thinking the time is fast approaching to spin ff off and float it??

If we say that the current level of WP/WP1's is about 1% of ff members but that increases to 2%,, Qantas would have a much better looking prospectus if they said "2% of our ff's are booking enough flights to rack up 1400+ sc's,, it would make an investor think that the ff program is worth some money..

It's a smart move, really. They get extra revenue because people then book unnecessary flights (or book QF where they would have booked DJ) in order to try hit that next level.

The double SC offer has certainly make me want to go for Gold. As a result of the offer, I have booked two JASA flights which it would not have booked if there was no double SC offer which would push me up to the next status level. I may even try to retain it next year if possible.

...

No doubt in my mind QF is being very clever and this approach will be successful. (I do believe that to be true for QF)
...
It's only the second offer I have had and really does little for me.

I'm basically booked through June next year (currently researching November 2013)

A DSC offer for me in my "new year" would reduce my 'return flights' from 12 to 6 :p

But I'm prepared to go the distance to earn WP with 15k miles... would just be a lot easier with 7k ;)

Have you found another loop hole?

If you enjoy flying then you will fly regardless. Or is the goal just to achieve some sort of status for the resume?

There's more than one?

I enjoy flying, and there's some places I really want to go, where status wouldn't matter, but it will add to my tally I guess.

Sent from a bench in the main terminal because there was no space in the Lounge for me. :p

Did you have to ask a non-P1 pleb to move, as they were sitting on "your" bench ? :p

I think we know someone who would have felt compelled to do just that .........;)

I think you would be an unusual case though, in fact there are many on AFF who might be considered unusual!!

DSC offers wouldn't be much use to me either I also have flights booked way into next year, July to be precise, and I'm preparing for an Oct 2013 trip to the UK.

I am somewhat in the same boat - I tend to book flights well in advance for all of my trips - like certainty of when I am travelling and manage to get flexi-savers at prices close to red-e-deals. As such I can have three months of bookings locked in. Then in comes the DSC offer and I can't avail myself of it. I am not expecting to see a DSC until it is clear that I wont hit 2,400 SCs and then I sort expect one maybe July next year. I will though now hold off on bookings until the last practical moment (which generally will be one month out for me).

I agree that this is a big benefit for Qantas. If it pushes people to buy more premium fares it improves the profit level. I'm looking at buying a flexi or even business fare domestically for the first time with Qantas to take advantage of it (the same benefit Virgin gets from requiring a flexi fare for the complimentary upgrades - it forces me to buy a higher grade fare in order to use it). Admittedly the Qantas benefit still exists for regular fares, but the odds of there being a cheap fare available at such short notice is greatly reduced (I know the difference between flexi saver and discount fares I'm looking at today is fairly minimal - doubling the SC to be doubled again for not much more cash, but it is extra cash to Qantas today which improves their bottom line with the liability of LTG that could be a decade away from having to be provided).

The sad thing is I wasn't even going to book more flights, but $219 for 80SC MEL-SYD-OOL (Flexi Saver with DSC) is probably the best SC trip I'm ever likely to find domestically so I'm very tempted to do it (and like I mentioned, even tempted to make business at $530 one way).

So why would Qantas offer me double status credits when I'm only 85 sc's off retaining platinum for another year with 4 months to go in my year. This certainly does not entice me to strive for 2400sc's....

Makes you wonder just how "targeted" these offers are.

I don't think ytd earned SC comes into this lot. More for those with a period of unusual inactivity.

For me out would be the first time in over a decade that I had not a QF flight in three months.

Thing is I got my promo in March last year - I was flying every week or fortnight, I had flights to HKG booked and about 4 trips to MEL booked.

I know people who haven't received it. In my case, the last 2-3 years I had flights booked in this period. This year I haven't. Perhaps they have looked at previous flights?

I see the benefits for me (DIKWIA) as well as QF.

1) Makes me book additional flights (as I have no existing bookings)
2) Gives QF either additional revenue and/or reduction of points liability on balance sheet - which in turn makes QF shares a better investment in the short term
3) I would have thought that with the poor QFi profit (read loss) numbers [but corresponding excellent profit on Domestic], this will further shore up the profitable division which can further sustain QFi until the turnaround in the world economy

Bring on some planning for my JASA's - and to get some more points to burn. EDR, time for some bonus points now, enough of the fuel vouchers

That's why I referred to 'this lot'.

To me it seems the criteria are different this time around - I do have over 2000 SC's for my "year" ...

Random.

Reading some of these posts and I just love the way some people justify these gifts they have received and how worthy they are to receive them.

What gifts? They are incentives that cost money to employ.

As for random, I think not.
