Double SC's - A mere Marketing tool or Doom for WP?

QF stated a figure of 3,000 P1s.

The latest reliable estimate of WPs was 60,000.

based on those figures and the estimated 8.6 mil ff members,, 0.7% of ff's are platinum,, and,, 0.035% are P1's. so, I guess we now need to decide how many passengers on a flight are either WP or P1's?? let's say at peak periods it's 5% and there are 10 flights per hour in Melb/Syd,, there would be 100 people in the business lounge.. in non peak times it would be a lot less.. I know that the past 6 times that I've flown, in non peak times the business lounge in Melb/Syd have been pretty quiet..

I still reckon it's a Qantas marketing exercise to get people flying and burning points..

There is a thread here on AFF with some numbers in. I think SG's came in at 450,000. If 50% of those SG's received the DSC offer, and 5% of those were successful in getting to WP then that is another 11,000 WP's. I don't believe that is implausible or unrealistic.

From a business perspective I think the DSC offers represent a good strategy for QF. Not so sure it's good for me, but the last few days has made me think about things, and if it makes some SG's happy then I need to be a little less selfish and say good on 'em! :)

*Gritted Teeth* :p

So why would Qantas offer me double status credits when I'm only 85 sc's off retaining platinum for another year with 4 months to go in my year. This certainly does not entice me to strive for 2400sc's....

I think it is a great marketing tool. Worked for me as I'll book all QF for the rest of the year.

Hah! I just received a double SC offer - it may be because I haven't earned an SC since June.:p

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

[Gritted Teeth] Congratulations to all those who have received the double status credit offer, I hope you can maximise it for your step up to the next level[/Gritted Teeth]

Re: WP for the first time ever

What actual published benefits have been lost from any of the tiers recently? All I can think of is unpublished ones like ATA and free exit rows.

Whoa! Sorry you mean SG don't get fee Exit rows with Q anymore? I've been flying exclusively with VA these past nine months, but my renewal year with Q is two weeks away and I just got the double SC offer. I'd been thinking about coming back as I've already made Plat again with VA but hell if I'm coming back to Q as an SG without exit rows.

Tony,

I promise only to utilise my renewed WP (which I would probably get to anyway without the DSC - but hey I'll take the kick-start from my 0 SC balance as I just had 1550 SC expire) benefits to sit in the lounge only when you were about to take the seat ;)

Nah - In all seriousness folks - everyone take a breath.

Stop worrying about your loss of exclusivity in the DYKWIA club and think about it.......

IF - and only IF - a "Significant" number of SG's (who currently don't fly that often or they would be WP), suddenly become WP as a result of DSC offers, and IF, only IF - they suddenly, miraculously decided to fly at a WP frequency - then and ONLY then - would there really be any discernible difference in F lounge crowding, WP benefit dilution etc.

The true reality (in all statistical probability) is that there will be more "paper-WPs" and "paper-SGs" as a result of DSC offers.

But in practice - unless they subsequently increase their previous level of flying frequency - then they won't be using the benefits (lounges) that often.

And if they do - then QF really have been successful and now there is more revenue for lounge enhancements ;)

I'm completely cool about it [gritted teeth]:p[/gritted teeth]

No doubt in my mind QF is being very clever and this approach will be successful. (I do believe that to be true for QF)

Sent from a bench in the main terminal because there was no space in the Lounge for me. :p

I agree, DSC may have a sudden increase in P1 and WP numbers, but how many of those individuals will be keeping up their SC earnings to retain their status? If they all went on huge DSC status runs to get them over the line this year, and their spend is identical next year (but without the DSC offer), they probably won't be retaining their newly minted status.

I had my first ever DSC offer this year after 18 years of flying with QF (3 as a WP), and whilst it was very welcome to help me retain PS, there was no way I could get to SG again on the small amount of QF flying I do these days, simply due to where I'm based now. Now, if those DSC had been offered when I was based in ADL and flying internationally almost every 3 weeks - I might have had a shot at P1 (just) if it were available; getting WP flying discount whY is a killer, but it was hard earned and I loved every minute of the lounge access I was able to get! My little piece of paradise before entering hell for those looooong 15+ hr flights. . . . . . . oh the memories, the cramps, the masses in tiny spaces. And I'd jump at the chance to do it all again, without batting an eye. :D

Well said, dfcatch.

I think one of the biggest impacts has been the Flexi credits to Super Saver switch....so I have to put my hand up as a hypocrite on that score.
