One more great benefit is that we can now do a xONE3 from Australia. We no longer need to travel via Asia. Dubai is in the Europe zone for the Oneworld Explorer fares....

That's in line with what I thought, case in point Australia Day they sometimes "let it slide" as long as you're not out of control, although I believe in recent years they've been a little more keen on enforcing the law due to issues that have arisen

I personally very much prefer continental Europe where you can happily drink your booze out on the streets during the Summer months. Strangely (?), there seems to be far less fights and glassings going on in France or Germany as opposed to countries with heavy alcohol police like the UK or Australia. Sorry for straying off topic, I just couldn't keep myself from adding this

I don't think that will be the case as oneworld Explorer fares can only be booked on oneworld airlines.

Not really from SYD no
EK415 SYD-DXB 14:30
EK005 DXB-LHR 07:30

compared to
QF1 SYD-SIN 08:20
QF1 SIN-LHR 13:36
With this new deal QF1 will transit through Dubai so it will have the more equal length flights and be a quicker SYD-LHR journey

Well, Florence and I have never been to Dubai and are very much looking forward to having a walk around the streets.

I think CX are the biggest losers in this deal.

Perhaps on the long haul routes west from Australia. Perhaps a bit on routes from SYD which is where QF has always put their resources. But from PER the questions are the fare $$ and credits for MH and whether UL will ever do CMB-PER/MEL.

But by adding PE to their A330s and having reasonable schedules from almost all regional capital cities, CX has already made the move to protect their market share in the Asia Australia market. Unfortunately for JNB, SIN, CMB and all of India, HKG is a bit out of the way from most of Australia. Though western Europe not so much.

Alas at this point, once (if) I reach LTG on AA, I will have to seriously consider whether MPC silver is as good or better than AA silver. A round trip PER to the USA via HKG will do most of the qualification for either. The redemption/benefit rate on QF never appealed to me once I had reached AA elite status.

Happy waiting for the dust to settle.

Hopefully they will eventually draft an agreement where each FFP's members can earn points and status irrespective of whoever markets the ticket.

That said, as alluded to by JohnK, the problems will be consistency of earn. For example, Class Bonus is currently at 50%/100% extra for J/F on QF (marketed) services only (not BA and AA); going on the same trend suggests that EK would also "miss" on this Class Bonus and use the more default 25%/50%. Status Bonus is currently only earned on QF, JQ, BA and AA services; once again, a guess may suggest that EK services would miss out on Status Bonus, unless they are "close" enough to QF in this agreement to be included in that subset of airlines.

As for Economy classes that will earn at the 1.00 rate, QF will more than likely maintain the current trend of all Economy classes earning 1.00. With EK marketed tickets it may be different. I'd like to see at least 0.50 for cheapest Economy (vs. 0.25 for BA Y), and all classes earning something (viz. would be sad if the cheapest Economy fares, e.g. sales, do not earn anything if marketed with EK). The dilemma would be not much different to QF codeshare vs. marketed on AA or BA Economy, where often the earn rate would be 0.25 - 0.50 rather than 1.00, which would only be earned on full Economy fares.

Status credit earn (except for the overarching issue of QFFers earning them on EK marketed tickets) will otherwise be consistent, though if there are ever double or bonus SC promos, these usually work on QF marketed tickets only, so naturally there is a "minor issue" there.
This is going to be the interesting bit. I remember when QF ran codeshares to Abu Dhabi on Qatar metal that the QF tickets were nearly double the price of the same Qatar ticket for the same day/flight. It's possible there may be differences in earning depending on the departure point in Australia - eg Sydney/Melbourne departures will only have SC's on QF metal, other points may offer SC's on EK metal where there is no QF metal going to Dubai. It will be interesting to see how they do it, and what the price difference is between QF and EK tickets for the same flight. I'm sure we will all be watching this closely, and hopefully the "whichever airlines has the highest level of..." won't be applied to the prices!

Trying to figure out how to get to sri lanka without overflying it first!
Un;ess i go via HKG

I normally get there via SIN or BKK now. I don't see why this would change under the new arrangements. And tickets exSIN and exBKK have traditionally been far less expensive than exAustralia.
As well, I keep hoping UL will restart flights to Australia once they finish joining OW. The addition of MH will also provide a number of new intra-Asia options.

Happy wandering

Sorry but I am having a slow morning (probably need another coffee) but how is 14:30 and 7:30 via DXB more equal than 08:20 and 13:36 via SIN

The misinformed views of the UAE, Islam and the Arab world on this forum border on ridiculous.

War ravaged? Australia is heavily involved in several conflicts in the Arab world while the UAE Defence Force remains undeployed.

I think many would be surprised just how many meals today are Halal. In fact, I believe GateGourmet was considering making all meals Halal Airline caterer serves up halal-only menu - FT.com

As for prescription medications, almost all states indicate on their consulate or embassy's website to carry the prescription, letter from one's Doctor and to keep the labels on the boxes. This even applied to the UK and the US.

If you are Islamaphobic or scared of Arabs then don't fly EK or venture into the Arab World. I doubt your custom will be noticed or missed!

Back on topic, good to have confirmation on the limousine service. When QF tied up with EY, the QF fares were an additional $2-$3k in F, and the car was not provided.

I'm with JohnK here. I'm gay and won't be transiting through Dubai out of principle.

But then shouldn't you be avoiding Singapore, Malaysia, etc, etc, etc too? I mean no offense. I'm gay myself. I just don't understand why SIN would pass the test.

Edit: oops I see lots of people beat me to it.

+1. Frankly I feel safer in DXB than I do in parts of the USA, and certainly Eastern Europe.

This is going to be the interesting bit. I remember when QF ran codeshares to Abu Dhabi on Qatar metal that the QF tickets were nearly double the price of the same Qatar ticket for the same day/flight.

The agreement is a JSA not codeshare. So like the current JSA with BA the flights should be priced the same.

Interesting - this actually is fairly adverse for my travel habits. For a late afternoon flight ex-SYD to SIN-LHR I find the short flight and consequently only short nap to work - I then fly the long flight and have another sleep SIN-LHR and tend to be awake for the last few hours - which makes for a long day on arrival but survivable. On the new route I would most likely have a biiiiig sleep on the SYD-DXB flight and not sleep much DXB-LHR - making for a very long day on arrival.

Just something to ponder...

Has Qantas confirmed the timings for QF1 and QF9 via DXB yet?

We have Business flights booked with Emirates and will have chauffeur collect in Venice (it looks like each person gets their own car? :)) and drop off in Singapore. It is part of the booking process.

Not entirely sure just how valuable that car transfer will be in Venice.

Same here but on the other hand I might finally be able to have a long sleep when coming back to SYD instead of the very short nap from SIN.
