Qantas / Emirates tie up (Partnership inc. Codeshare, Status)

I am booked on the following flights:

21 Mar 13 SYD-SIN QF5 J (747)
25 Mar 13 SIN-LHR QF1 F (380)
29 Apr 13 LHR-(SIN)-SYD QF2 F (380)

with the announcement (if I am understanding it correctly), will I now be flying:

29 Apr 13 LHR-(DXB)-SYD EK?

I'm currently scheduled to be on QF2 and then QF10 in May in F. (I just checked because I thought I was on QF10 straight through.) I wonder what the timings of QF2 and 10 will be. After all I have to max the SC's!!!!!! :D
 
No different from Australia really anyway....

It is not illegal to drink in many public parks in Australia. A Beer or wine with a BBQ is still done here thanks very much. (this is going to very between states and councils i know)
 
I notice in the press that as part of the alliance there will be no more code sharing with Cathay Pacific.

Excuse my ignorance, but if you fly Cathay as a Qantas FF member will you still earn points ( one world alliance) but not Status Credits ?

Only one code share is being dropped which is Rome. As Qantas and Cathay are still both OneWorld points earn will stay as is.

Are you sure it's not more so a case of it's tolerated, rather than being legal?

Certainly in WA that is the case (Maximum Fine: AUD$2,000 or on the spot fine of AUD$200 - Section 119 Liquor Control Act 1988)

That's in line with what I thought, case in point Australia Day they sometimes "let it slide" as long as you're not out of control, although I believe in recent years they've been a little more keen on enforcing the law due to issues that have arisen (we should probably move this to another thread?).

But not in SA: (Alcohol Laws)
... In South Australia, it is not an offence for a person over 18 to consume alcohol in a public place unless the public place is declared a dry area ...

As noted, laws vary with location and circumstance in relation to "public places" in Oz.

Not so in Dubai.
 
Whilst personally I have no problems transitting throuh Dxb (and have previously), I suspect a significant number of OZ passengers have no great desire to transit or in particular stopover in Dxb for various cultural reasons:shock:. These same people will have no hesitation in stopping over in Sin between Sydney / Melbourne and London to break up the long journey......I think QF will lose these pax to SQ, TG and MH.

Anyone that has this view should take a drive through Lakemba or Bankstown or most of greater Sydney. You can add a good few boroughs of London to the list!
 
Why? They have only said the flights are being retimed to offer better connections on Asia. They seem to still have plans there, in fact, Asia is part of the strategy.

So, he better keep building!

Well it might as well be the size of a shoe box - at least BAEC members will get a nice new lounge.

I suppose there is always J* to fill the void;)
 
So this is the hot thread of the week. The beginning of the end for Qantas as an airline.

Qantas may as well not bother having any aircraft at all and just sell codeshare flights both domestic and international operations. Think of all the money they could save. And they will not even need a CEO either.

Very, very poor....
 
Why is it a waste? Singapore will no doubt be well and truly on the network map, just like Hong Kong is now.

Isn't it likely that QF will use either the A330 or the QF5 747s to service SIN - ie no F. What will QF use the refurbed F lounge for - their 3K hub?

Is it just me, but wouldn't it be reasonable to think they would have sorted this obvious SC issue out before any announcements regarding codeshares?

To me it just sounds like it's not been said, because it's not going to happen.....
