But I suspect in this your OneWorld partners will cease to earn flight and mileage credit on the QF flight numbers using EK metal. And the flights will not be eligible for use on the One World multi-continent tickets. The latter will affect QF FF members.

The benefits for many QF (and partner) fliers (elite or otherwise) will be the "expanded" operations from Australia to/from Asia.
Hopefully that will include daily flights to HKG from all capital cities and retention/expansion of the the SIN service. Transferring this service to JQ is not comparable. As well the change of scheduling to better support O&D flyers and inter-Asia connections (not necessarily on JQ) is a major expectation. Note: I vowed to never arrive in PER at 04:40 as the intended schedule.

Although you wont be able to use LONE,DONEs etc almost certainly there could well be a chance of using a Global Explorer ticket.
Again though seeing you will now be able to ticket virtually around the world products on QF or QF codeshares(assuming they dont get rid of the BA intra Europe codeshares or AA codeshares) what need will those in QFF have for OW products.

For you and me though being AA centric this will certainly mean we will have to use a little more thought in our planning.

Primarily just code shares - would be great for me and the family to be able to use points to get to DXB. Would also be nice to fly to JED via DXB on EK metal and a QF number - would be worth around 50K points per year to me...

In the FAQs under luggage it says:

7. Will there be any differences between baggage policies on Emirates and Qantas?
No. The baggage policy on all codeshare flights will be the same on both airlines as part of creating a seamless customer experience.

QF now allow 1 x 23kg for Y and 3 x 23kg for J, with the option now under the piece system to pay for an extra bag for $90 online or $120 at the airport. EK allow 30kg for Y and 40kg for J but to my knowledge charge excess baggage at a per kg rate.

Well there is a lot of fact and a certain amount of speculation re some of the fine print that is TBA. I think overall it seems pretty good, most of what exists is retained (notable known exceptions SIN-LHR and SIN-FRA on QF), and there is plenty of scope for alternatives via DXB. I imagine while many will look and feel a little disappointment that a certain favoured route may be unavailable, there is sufficient alternative that with a little planning and modification, then most will find one.

So subject to satisfactory fine print (esp. details on SC earning on EK flights - that may carry a little weight with some members here ), it seems pretty good overall.

Oh, and prices - will be interesting to see how these pan out. Just did a dummy booking for MEL-SIN-LHR rt on QF for Nov dates - cheapest J fare ~AUD9630, and EK MEL-DXB-LHR rt same dates - cheapest J fare AUD7970

Been a long read but have to hand it to QF, Red Roo has been involved and answering questions to some of their most loyal flyers in this forum about the announcement.....so well done guys!

To me this is good news for Perth as EK has told Westralia Airports to hurry up with the A380 ready gate. So hopefully we will get A380 service PER-Europe.

Perth's flight times to Singapore are terrible with QF anyway. For example I have a 5hr layover next week and only because I'm leaving on BA otherwise it was a 6.5hr layover and an almost 5hr coming home bloody PITA! At least EK has a 2hr between PER and LHR.

Only problem will be that we loose an option to Europe out of Perth with QF but could potentially gain more services from EK or have QF operate a PER-DXB service to compliment the 3 daily PER-DXB with EK.

Exciting times ahead for QF and EK and many many more options for us the customers. If it works as well or better than the Air NZ/Virgin Aus Alliance it will be successful tie up.

Missed the press conference, but was there any mention of swapping those much sort of after EK 777s that made some on here a little giddy earlier in the week???

And with this QF should have quite an extensive route map via code shares, do they have any similar 140,000 QFF award to OW, the beauty of the OW award is it allow you to travel so far for so few points....

I imagine JohnK will love this result, and definitely not sure about that Falcon Route title...

Better not tell QF then who occasionally divert there . Brisbane is A380 ready and has two aerobridges and an EK lounge designed to support A380 ops (direct from lounge to upper deck boarding).

I will be using it on Tuesday, but have to walk down some steps to board the 773

MEL-KUL is also very very busy looking when I check too, but as you say, perhaps many of those seats being held for connecting pax to DXB

Yeah I'm on QF 77 1125-1725 and then QF 3345 (BA12) 2300-0500.

QF 71 wouldn't bloody show up in my search at the time for some reason. J was on special but now it comes up at 10k one way

So stuck in Singapore.

On the way home QF78 came up but no good landing in Perth at 0100! I have to connect to KTA first thing that morning so kinda my fault on the way home for the layover.

Sandilands will take the anti-QF position on any issue, doesn't matter what it's about. He has a real chip on his shoulder which is perhaps why he's no longer working for mainstream media.
