The SIN QF/BA "First" Lounge slips to new lows

The showers at Skyview are better than QF J or F. For a start they're hot.

I feel sorry for CX. Everyone uses the CX lounge in HKG, now maybe SIN too :)

Pre refurbishment QF F showers were hot.

Currently sitting in the SIN "First" lounge. Space is filling up fast. Had to hunt around and do a couple of laps for a seat. Some others are still available if you like to make new friends! A definite step down from the old F lounge. Internet is slower also.

It should be noted that all F, J, WP and OWE are permitted into the "First" lounge. So the only ones not let into "First" are SG or lower travelling in Y. This is therefore not a "First" lounge at all.

They should really call the lounges "Business" and "Qantas Club" as it is similar to domestic QP access.

I hope the new F lounge is going to be nice.

As wrong as it may seem, for those who want a pleasant experience there are some quiet, comfortable areas in T1 on Level 3 towards the D Pier with good wifi coverage. It seems best strategy is almost to firstly visit the F lounge for some beverages, maybe a shower and after that it sounds like it would be more comfortable and quieter in the public area!

Gosh we even had the Friday Australian papers in the SQ Business lounge on Friday night. And the showers were a lot better-cleaned before every new use.

One topic of discussion on FT was timers they put in that limited the availability of hot water in SQ showers at peak times. I think in the end consensus was that it really wasn't SQ being cheap (although it may have been) but a good thing to ensure showers weren't monopolised at peak times, reducing wait times. But yes between every use they are quickly cleaned by attendants.

As for papers, SQ does tend to have recent papers available. QF always used to have 1 day old SMHs, but for as long as I remember the Age was always 2 days old, which puzzled me no end.

I haven't flown via HKG, so it's BKK or SIN. SIN J/F has been decent, but now....BKK seems better??

At the moment I'm a little keener to fly via SIN. Flying via BKK or HKG means a BA codeshare to the UK. (Not all bad but QF has been nice to me of late!!!)

We should remember that they still call this First Class.

To be honest, that F lounge has hardly been at a "First Class" standard for a very long time.

It was a pleasant enough place to rest, but not up there at all.

This experience you had wouldn't even pass for Business; it's purely unacceptable.

What is there to say other than disappointing?

Well, not much except that perhaps at least one or two people deserve to be dragged for a mile and strung up to dry.

As an Aquarian, I loved the running water! :-)

The Qantas F lounge in BKK is quite ordinary as was the SIN one. The Qantas business lounge in BKK is much better and has space although I do not know what it is like before a full flight. I do not believe it is as bad as the old SIN Business Lounge.

It is a shame the SYD-BKK flights are now on an A330.

My current favourites lounges are

- SIN Skyview Lounge
- BKK QF Business Lounge
- HKG Cabin although they do not have salmon anymore and Pier F lounge for breakfast as they do have a plentiful supply of salmon ;)

Agreed.. The SQ business lounge in T3 is fantastic, even in peak times. It is very spacious, well laid out design, excellent range of up to date reading material, super speed wifi & business facilities, with a fantastic variety of F&B & clean showers with ample supplies of amenities on offer :D
I hope QF gets their act together.. ASAP.. That is a disgrace for a 'premium" lounge.

I guess the only real disadvantage (if you can call it one) of the SQ J SKL at T3 is that you need to be flying SQ Business to get access.

Any other Star Alliance Business class, Star Alliance Gold (without SQ Business) or Virgin elite status must use the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge, which is nowhere near as good as the SKL and arguably inferior to the QF/BA Lounges.

Sounds like they're not coping as well as they could at SIN while the refurb is in progress. :)

But I have to say that prior to the current refurb I've used the SIN F lounge about 4 or 5 times in the last couple of years and I've had no trouble getting a seat, it has got crowded when flights transit through, but not packed, I've had my fill of whatever food/snacks took my fancy (serve yourself or waiter), had some perfectly reasonable wines and beers, adequate wi-fi, and been generally comfortable. Cannot comment on the showers as I haven't used them. It would never have won any awards but it seems the expectations are that it should measure up to, or pretty close to, MEL/SYD F lounge standards, and I think you would struggle to find any airlines that have F lounges at 'foreign' ports that measure up to the standards of the home port(s). Like I said, it was never going to win awards, but I can't see how I could have been much more comfortable while using it.

TBH, I've been a bit underwhelmed by the CX lounges at HKG, and that (obviously) is their home port.

True.. The very simple problem that most lounges face is that infrastructure is not keeping up to demand.. Always appears to be the certain inconvenient lag upgrade timing in some/many ports. Though admit, have been in others at times where it's like a private club flying solo, till one reaches the gate..

When I flew out a week ago, I had no problem getting a seat in the temp J (ex-F) lounge. Didn't check out the other side though.

As a piscean I appreciated it - disappeared maybe two years ago ... :-|

Good grief. Has it been that long since I transited in SIN. :-$

May I ask what lounge? Or all? What underwhelmed you?

I know tuapekatar was a CX diamond a few years ago, so may have some experinces.

Personally I have always appreciated the Wing, F or J (but then again SWMBO disliked the stoney grey walls muchly).

Was in the J lounge (ex F) last night. No seats. Cold showers. Waits for showers, which were dirty (also had the missing amenities mentioned, no moisturiser). Food okay. I ended up with a seat at the wine bar, which was constantly topped up so there's a positive :)

In peak times, definitely better off grabbing a quick drink and leaving.

It's worth remembering that those access arrangements are temporary and only apply to SIN, while the redevelopment takes place.
