The SIN QF/BA "First" Lounge slips to new lows

Was there again last night. August 23rd. So what's wrong with this picture?

Well either its orange juice that's about 3 days over its optimal consumption date; a beverage from the very, very distant future which has arrived via some sort of time machine; or scientists have somehow genetically engineered orange juice to last for several millennia.

I'm not quite sure which case is necessarily undesirable. ;)

Two ways to read that - it could have been a few days out of date, or a few years (12/2008)!

No showers there as far as I remember.

Yup sky view has good showers, Better food drink and wifi, a better overall ambience and natural light and a higher cut of pax than the QF/BA lounges ;)

A few days after the estimated expiry date.

I am sure some of you have had other experiences but I do not throw food/drink away just because of an expiry date that is stamped on there months or years in advance. It is not guaranteed to go off on that date and sometimes it goes off well before. Only one way of knowing.

I interpret that as 12/ 2008 ie a few years out of date. Regardless of days or years I think it is unacceptable to display/ serve out of date F&B in an airport lounge. Sure I'm prepared to admit I may have a few antiques lurking at the back of the pantry but I would not expect to be served them at the airport.

There's a huge difference between three days and 3½ years - IMHO it is probably 2012 (I'm not even sure the renovations to the SIN lounge last decade were completed then.)

FWIW, given 2012 then if that was UHT treated and there was a designated "shelf life" of 6 months or it was "fresh" with a designated "shelf life" of 2 weeks then I'd have no issue.

Ok, the lounge refresh was completed in 2004: The Qantas and British Airways Lounge in Singapore

I went back to the fridge and saw others in there with USE BY 070912 (or similar) stamped on them.

I also had an opened, but nearly full 1/2 litre bottle of water on my table (I had brought this into the lounge off an earlier flight). When the lounge staff were doing a table clean-up round shortly before my boarding call, I said they may as well take the water as it would not be allowed past the gate security at SIN. Security had stopped me in the past even with a small can of soda. The lounge staff member said that smaller bottles (meaning my 1/2 litre water) would be OK. I decided then to take another OJ and test the advice - and it got though security no problem.

SIN seems to have loosened up a bit? I noticed before I could buy an 75ml EDT in the airport store and they assured me I could get it past security in addition to the 1 litre resealable clear bag. They were right.

Note to self: Stick to alcohol! (Actually, the lounge this time was not too bad, crowded, but OK):)

Was there on the 23rd as well but only had alcoholic drinks, when I got of QF6 the lounge was very quiet and no problem getting shower or seat. As soon as the other flights started getting in it got really busy.

I read it a third way like anat01-but then I dont think I will be around in the year 200,812.

You don't have Champagne! I'm partial to a Mimosa as well.

For me it really depends on the quality of the Champagne. IMHO a good Champagne is destroyed / wasted by adding anything...

But if we are talking trashy sparkling incorrectly marketed as Champagne, then a half-half mix with OJ goes down reasonably, especially as part of a "Bottomless Brunch" ala Lower East Side style.

What are the bubbles on offer at the SIN J and F lounges?

the HKG J lounge IIRC had some Australian Bubbles instead of any champagne back in March.

What not even Guinness?
