Everyday Rewards Qantas Credit Card

Cove, you know its just a game.. as per your blog. Also I am not sure it is possible to get a black mark on ones credit file, for just closing an account...!

Yes I agree this card is very good value, however I did call to get a waiver on the annual fee. For me a 10 min call to save $89 was worth it, after all, that's a potential earn of $534/hr lol

Each to their own, but if you are putting ~$25k through this one then I can't see any harm in a simple loyalty call...

My 2c worth

It's not possible by closing an account, but by applying for a new one and having it rejected you may see a credit rejection on your credit file.

Was the bonus points specifically related to the Qantas spend...? The reason I ask is that I also was given some bonus points, however they are not related to a Qantas booking since I don't put Qantas flights on this card...

The bonus points you received may be related to the recent 2x bonus offer for all spend on this card at Woolworths Supermarkets etc... which was offered to many of us a few months ago

shintaro10x,
I can't find any reference to 2x bonus on spend at Woolworths Supermarkets, and the number of points doesn't relate to the number of dollars spent at Woolworths either. I went back through my statements and see I earned 127 bonus points on my October statement too, but again, it doesn't relate to the spend.

There is no such thing as a credit rejection on your file. When you apply for credit it shows up as an Enquiry on your file, but does not show whether it was approved or rejected. In some cases it will show the amount of credit you applied for as well (eg. the loan amount).

It only becomes a problem when you have too many enquiries in a given period of time (which each provider measures differently - some only allow as little as 1 or 2 enquiries in the last 12 months, others will allow a lot more). Each provider has their own credit assessment rules - they will not reject you just because you were rejected by someone else.

In fact, your credit file does not even show if you accepted an offer. You could apply for 5 cards, only actually activate one, but to anyone viewing your file they would not know this. The banks would then generally assume that you took all of them, and that's when you'll run into issues. If something like this happens, it pays to ask the provider for a letter to say you never took the offer up after applying. Also whenever you close an account always ask for a letter to show it has been closed.

The banks need to know that you can afford to pay for your total potential liability, so if you can prove that you can by showing that your credit file implies you have more cards than you actually do, then they should be ok.

Changing cards once a year is very unlikely to have a negative impact with most organisations.

Hmm...$534 an hour does sound attractive.
I bought about $20k of Woolies gift cards at a 5% bulk discount but I used a different credit card as it was for business and so I got about 30k points elsewhere.
Now if that took 20 minutes.........
All day shopping with bonus points today and tomorrow for those holiday supplies!

This is the type of offer I was talking about, I received this offer in August, and I beleive the bonus points have only posted in this months statement...

Here is a copy of the offer from August

Slow at posting bonus points, however the fine print in the offer was clear that the points would take some time to post, and only if your account was not in arrears

*Double Qantas Frequent Flyer points offer is only available to Woolworths Qantas credit cardholders on eligible purchases made from 30 August, 2011 to 12 September, 2011 in Woolworths/Safeway supermarkets, Woolworths Liquor, BWS, BIG W, Thomas Dux, Dan Murphy's, Dick Smith stores (excluding reseller stores) and CALTEX WOOLWORTHS/SAFEWAY co-branded fuel outlets. Eligible purchases during the promotional period are required to be made with the Woolworths Qantas credit card. No points are earned on business expenses, interest free promotions, balance transfers and cash advances. This offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other bonus offer. Allow up to 8 weeks after 12 September, 2011 for receipt of your bonus points at which time your account must be current and not in arrears.

For me its simple, i think i may have explained before... If i say put even $15,000 through a woolies card that would get me 15,000 QFF points, with it gone now i will put any non-Amex spending through my ANZ Plat Visa at $1=0.5 points, so i will earn 7,500 less for the cost of $89, or put another way the $89 spend would only have netted me 7,500 Qff points... Living in Perth i need pretty much 18,000 points to get anywhere of worth one way... I can buy a jetstar flight to the east coast for about $150... I can get a Tiger flight for less, is it $110-130?? I just bought jetstar flights to Bali for $200 return (ie $100 one way) So why have to need almost 3 times that 7,500 to get anywhere of worth just one way for an equivalent spend of 3x$89 when for little more than a $100-150 i can buy the flight outright??? To me the sums don't add up and I am unlikely to spend more than $15,000 on it because every $ i can spend on the Amex goes on the Amex at 1.5 points=$1...

I don't fly for work and if i do its purchased through my govy department, so no ability to buy Qantas products at 2 points per $1 on a personal card and I have never considered doing the buy $000s of gift cards but i imagine i could do that on plat Amex as well couldn't i?? But seeing i am single and often struggle to spend $50/week on groceries could take me years to spend all those gift vouchers... So it was just a rational decision from my point to not spend money on QFF points unless i see how they get me more $ value than just by buying flights outright...

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

This is why the whole points thing is so personal, the 'value' depends entirely on your own personal circumstances.

If $89 buys you 7500 QFF points, then thats 1.2c/point.

If 18K points is equivalent for your circumstances to a $150 flight, then thats 0.8c / point of potential redemption value

.... ie; this specific scenario is a losing proposition and therefore not one to go for.

Would the current 0$, 5K points deal appeal? What about opportunities for 1:1 or better Velocity accrual on MC or Visa? 0.5 points / $ spend is just too awful to contemplate

Well i'm lucky that i am finding so many ways to pay things with my $1=1.5 point Amex that 0.5 point Visa is not a huge issue... I can pay my vodafone mobile bill, collect points through my rental rewards, can now pay energy and gas bills with Amex, groceries and fuel etc, etc, etc... Even my macca's gets paid with Amex, the Visa or Woolies is really only for the places that don't accept like my dentist or Subway's etc so the annual spend is always gonna be small...

I would take out the Woolies $0 card even with or without the 5000 points to get a $1=1 point card although my stable of cards at the moment is a little large so i might have to wait before i try again... My aim is to wherever possible get points for $0 as a 'bonus' above and beyond what i would have normally spent without adding extra spend to chase points unless it can hopefully be beneath 1 point/1 cent... As soon as i have to start paying for points with my style of redeeming them in economy it pretty quickly becomes unprofitable unless they are for large amounts of points which gets me more quickly to my goal of 140,000 QFF points for another OW award...

Instead of paying the $89 for 0 points sign on and 7,500 points throughout the year with Woolies i just recently took out the Westpac offer for 16,000 QFF points which cost me $75 which seemed like a much better way to spend an annual fee and the points were gotten at a much better cost per point (less than half a cent)...

Next thing i need to do is see if i can negotiate down my $295 annual fee for my ANZ Plat Visa/Amex although it represents reasonable value when you chuck in the travel insurance as well...

And no i don't really want to go to velocity, it will just introduce another FF program to split my spend and points earnt and just take longer to achieve any goals, prefer fewer FFPs and faster...

Gents, have a strange problem with my EDR CC & pay at the pump at woolworths servo's and was curious if anyone else here might have this problem too.

A while back i was issued with another EDR CC due to my card being within a number range that had been compromised, prior to new card being issued i had elected for points over discount at the pump and all worked fantastically. Upon receiving my new card i again elected to receive points over discount - but noticed that no points or discount was applied at the pump. Of course i lodged a call with EDR and EDRCC which basically went nowhere, as far at they could see all was setup correctly from their end, after numerious calls i basically gave up (read - useless).

Fast forward a couple a months and all of a sudden (with no change from me) i noticed that i was now receiving the fuel pump discount (pay at pump) - even though i had confirmed my profile set to 'points'.

Couple of weeks later pay at pump was unavailable so had to painfully pay over the counter, the console operator scanned my EDR barcode and i thought nothing of it..... couple of days later points turned up.

So paying with my card at the pump will give a discount, but over the counter will provide points.... and confirmed this being repeatable over the following weeks.

I must admit i do find the whole situation humorous and supports my theory of this product being rushed to market without appropriate testing or support.

So million dollar question - anyone else here had an issue like mine?

I have the same issue with the prepaid card, it works for discount but change back to points, the voucher goes AWOL for two days then comes back but no points! I gave up playing tennis between the various departments trying to get to the bottom of the issue.

Perhaps you may have to cancel the card, then re-apply...? I would imagine this should then fix your problem...

Yes I know it is drastic action, however it is an action open to you for zero cost as there is zero sign up on until FEB-29, you may also get another sign on bonus of 5,000 QFF for your actions

Can I ask what benefit the pre-paid card has over the standard QEDRCC...? Lower transaction fees...?

It's not a credit card but still allows pay at the pump when SWMBO has the kids in the car, so I get the points.

Fair enough... But why not get a supplementary card for her for the extra points per litre earn... (or whatever value fuel voucher is available)? :D

Edit, Assuming she has an EDR & QFF membership of course...

Or have I missed something and the pre-paid card functions exactly the same as the credit card, only you must load funds first...? Does the pre-paid card have an EDR barcode on it...?

The prepaid links in to EDR for pay at the pump, and emails me a tax invoice.

Received offer in the mail today for 3.99% p.a on balance transfer from non-HSBC & Woolworths cards for a maximum of 6 months

Must admit this offer is pretty much as lame as one gets... Cant they see I pay full balance on end of month and never pay 1c of interest, so I'm hardly going to jump at an offer which is going to cost me, not save me...

This must be non-targeted and very lame for most on here...
