Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I've now taken to booking a one way out of Oz and then booking 12 month returns out of Singapore (and each time having to book another return out of Singapore to ensure I am guaranteed on a flight back to Oz to make I can get back to work on time). I figured that even with the higher cost for a 12 month ticket, and the inevitable date change required once I worked out when I actually want to fly, it will still be cheaper than booking a return flight out of Oz.

Just realised that one pitfall of booking flights from outside Oz is that the trip won't be eligible for travel insurance under credit cards. Just checked my credit card terms and conditions and it firstly needs to be a return flight, and the outbound needs to be from Oz.

Ok, add on costs of separate travel insurance, but I think it'll STILL be cheaper overall than an ex-Oz flight...

Suggestion: Get an annual policy - normally a maximum 35 day per trip limitation

How will you get to the overseas starting point?

Most CC insurance lasts 3 months, with some plat cards offering 6 months.

So as long as you pay for you outbound and inbound travel on the card you should be covered.

I have this purely for the car hire excess savings, the fact it's tax deductible also helps in making the cost a bit of a no brainer!

Waiting for the extension of this thread to everything that is priced differently here and abroad... (Cars? Boats? whatever?)

..and of course the inclusion of complaints that some things are cheaper here.. therefore all those foreign buyers are getting "ripped off"....:mrgreen:

Such as, well: paying the equivalent of $2.07 a litre for petrol in the UK: or meat at anywhere from 1/3 to double the price we pay here in OZ? :p

But yes, I do drool when in the UK/Europe at the price of German/Bavarian cars compared to the luxury market here - have to hold on to my 2005 Saab 6 cyclinder for a while yet (as long as the parts are available). Thanks GM!

I find that travel insurance that comes with credit cards are sometimes not adequate (although YMMV), so quite often, I decide to purchase cover from a suitable insurer anyway. Although, having the luxury of a SIN-based credit card, I have some cover when I go home as well. :D

Same here.....might be my ignorance but I feel more comfortable having a completely declared, submitted policy in hand.

Since most of my booking are not purchased ex Oz, an annual policy was essential.

Those holding an Amex Plat Charge card have no such issues.

Fascinating. Current QF sale prices ex LHR and ex SYD. On my reckoning the premium for the latter about 45% in our low season and 65% in low shoulder. Impressed with the fares cheapflights found me on CX - about £650 departing mid May:). Best I could do the other way was for about 50% more flying MU:shock:

S'pose I could do positioning flights SYD-LHR and RT on QFF points, with LHR-SYD-LHR in the middle and eke out 2 rt fares for not much more than one (considering the toxic ++) but that would kinda lock me into going the same place twice. Makes sense if you're doing the run regularly, but otherwise...

You may be in luck. It's only recently that I have found issues in getting parts for my 1977 Mercedes...:mrgreen:

Emirates BNE to HM F (Suites) return from German Site $7,964 return. Same flight through Australian Site $10,172.:?::?::?:

I am looking to fly to UK next April, and got a fare from EK, CS, VA, all J. EK $8990, CS $4800, VA $6900, I also got others. But I also got the same from UK relatives, allowing for exchange rate using Travelex. I got, EK $4998 CS $4856, and VA $4942. Now anybodies Language this is outrages, I have also just had relatives over from UK left last Wednesday on EK (direct to Newcastle). They could not get over how expensive it was in Australia, in everyway. I agreed with them on this, as we were there March this year. When they asked FC in UK why it was so expensive, they were told that it was the only country in the world where Airlines were making real money, and that they were loosing money in Europe.
So we in Australia are SUBSIDIZING the rest of the world ???, I wonder.

Im glad ppl have come out and reinforced what I have been saying !! admittedly you are all doing it better than me :D

And, it really doesn't matter who you are flying with, but if you are paying less than $60 per hour for the journey, then you aren't even paying for the fuel used.

I see this, then in the next breath -

I'll bet a lot of people wish the 380 were that economical. I make it about 20% worse. My understanding is that benchmark jet fuel prices are not what is actually charged to the airline, but as i don't see the bill i can't see the per litre cost.

How did you calculate the cost at $60, when you don't know the price?

Has me intrigued.
