Strange Attitude of DJ SYD lounge staff

Maybe its just me or perhaps its the shirt I am wearing but tonight I have been informed that DJ have a policy of 2 beers in the first hour and 1 beer every hour after that in the Sydney lounge by the current attendant - Mr Juvic, I have also been informed that I cannot get beers for others other than myself, which somewhat embarressed the clients I was entertaining before they left on their flights. I should add I am on the third beer for the day and I am not driving, all I wanted to do was be hospitable with some clients after closure of a significant deal!

While I am all for the responsible service of alcohol and respecting your privileges, this is the second time in 3 visits I have found the Sydney lounge team to be overbearing and showing what I consider a very poor attitude, which contrasts very much with the service levels and attitude of the front desk crew who have been fantastic.

Maybe I am just rubbing people up the wrong way, but I find such a policy of beer limits rediculous when there is self serve wine available and around the corner from Mr Juvic, a swathe of Moet available thanks to their tasting sessions, its almost like the bar staff and cleaners are trying to protect the bottom line and limit the amount of work they have to do! By all means have limits, but dont embarrass business people in front of their clients by ignoring them, then telling them its one beer only, especially when they are not intoxicated by any means! Maybe I should have a beer and just get over it, whoops, it has not been an hour, better make it a Moet :mrgreen:. I wonder if its just me?

I should add that the current lounge PCs status is 1 from 7 working, and the printer is broken, so no boarding pass for tommorrows PE flight from MEL, really poor form, while I doubt business facilities are in high demand on a Friday night, it would be nice if they worked when you needed them!

Edit - Its Amex thats providing the Moet - very nice!

No, I don't think it's just you.

Although I haven't heard of the extremity you mention and I usually choose the self serve wines (or Moet :D) over the beers, I have certainly noticed the less than hospitable attitude of the cleaners and bar staff which, as you say, contrasts dramatically with the wonderfully pleasant demeanour of the front desk and service desk staff.

I've occasionally thought there almost seems a bit of resentment in their attitude (the bar/cleaning staff).

Perhaps DJ need to run a "refresher" course in PR for those staff.

I have often wondered whether the actual lounge food/beverage service of the lounge was in fact leased to another organisation. Could this be the case, or are the bar staff Virgin employee's? I have no knowledge of how they operate, but at Sydney , I always get the impression of being served by a subby, who is unwilling to give out more than they have to. I always thought it was just me being tempremental;)
 
I might just also add, I've not noticed this poor attitude at the BNE Lounge so perhaps they do use local catering companies...........if so, they need to employ "secret shoppers" to pinpoint the rogue service staff/companies.

Responsible service of alcohol is not just acceptable, but expected by most of us, but what markis10 experienced is disgraceful and not in accordance with the terms of the lounge membership benefits.
 
This is taking things to the extreme.
As an intelligent adult, I am perfectly capable of deciding and choosing how much alcohol I can drink before I get into a stupour, which incidentally, I have not been drunk for years. If you are not driving at the end of your flight and you want to a have a few beers to unwind, then so be it.
Service should really only be refused if one is displaying characteristics of being intoxicated. I have done a Responsible Serving of Alcohol course and being a volunteer bartender at my local cricket club, I have refused plenty of people service before. I doubt you were even close to even being tipsy.
I hope this is addressed ASAP and that common sense prevails. We are not children.
PS: I wonder if this is extended once onboard the aircraft. I flew MEL-PER in Y+ l;ast Fridat night and was continously topped upwith generous sevings of red wine by the wonderful cabin supervisor all flight. I was not drunk, but enjoyed the hospitality and it made the flight quite pleasant. What's good on the ground, should be good int he air as well?

Interesting that at PER Lounge last Saturday, the white wines were in the fridge and I had to ask for them and for any refill. The reds were sitting out on the bench though. Reason? People were stealing full bottles (and some half-full bottles) right from under their nose. Disgusting that people would do that.

I don't think RSA is related to BAC for driving. It is not a crime to be over 0.05.

When I discovered I could get the best of both worlds by spreading the love, although I have never been lectured about beer consumption in the QP, even if they limit serves to single nips in the PER QP! I am flying JQ tomorrow, now that is a shock!

JQ! That may be considered spreading the love just a little too far.

The rule on single serves seems to apply at all the QPs and business lounges. There is, however, no rule about ordering two single serves and combining them at the bar yourself.;)

I am often surprised at the generosity of the Chivas measures in the J lounges.

I've also never had my beers limited in DJ lounges, although mostly ADL & CBR.

I am hearing you on that score, still ticked off that I could not order a Crown Lager, Asahi and Carlton Draught tonight because they might be all for me, what sort of person would put that sort of order in if they were interested in getting drunk, given the self serve wine not to mention the Moet on offer. I wonder if I would have got the same response had I been wearing a suit rather than my ford shirt....learned a long time ago in sales that you never judge a book by its cover ;).

Now I undersand the issue. The barman is a Holden lover.

printer was broken on Sunday, and a lady there said it was broken the previous wednesday...

Imagine the DJ (VA) crew uproar on AFF if that was a QF printer... meh
