Strange Attitude of DJ SYD lounge staff

Interesting that at PER Lounge last Saturday, the white wines were in the fridge and I had to ask for them and for any refill. The reds were sitting out on the bench though. Reason? People were stealing full bottles (and some half-full bottles) right from under their nose. Disgusting that people would do that.
Yes, found the same issue last time I was at PER Lounge. Perhaps there should be a character check on Lounge entrants (though that could be a double edged sword) :D
On another note, it was interesting to be back in that lounge for the first time since 2001. Out front looks different but the showers etc still retain the AN ambience. They work well - which is the only important thing.

I have often wondered whether the actual lounge food/beverage service of the lounge was in fact leased to another organisation. Could this be the case, or are the bar staff Virgin employee's? I have no knowledge of how they operate, but at Sydney , I always get the impression of being served by a subby, who is unwilling to give out more than they have to. I always thought it was just me being tempremental;)
In BNE, the food & beverage staff are from Transit Foods (in Virgin uniforms), and the cleaning staff are from Spotless (in Spotless uniforms) :)

Why is the beer not self-service in the DJ Lounges? I'm used to the NZ lounges where its all self service including spirits!

Well the beer rationing has helped me conclude that a switch of allegiance to DJ is not the best idea. I'll stick to QF.

Yep and I don't drive Holdens because they look nothing like a Toyota.

I copped some real attitude from the Lounge staff as well the other day - the lounge dragon actually accused me of what she called 'double dipping' - going in and out with more people!! I was quite calm and said I'd be more than happy for them to review the CC footage and then once she was proven incorrect I'd be sending a copy direct to the CEO with a photo of her! She backed down very quickly once she saw how confident I was.... mumbled something about getting all the 'rabble' trying it on all day (being based in the terminal they are in) - but didn't apologize, just grumpily waved me on.

In the process of writing a letter, not holding my breath for a response though.

Think there are some definite trends here for VA to circle back with all their contractors and give them a bit of a customer service lesson. Still a lot of VA staff and contractors with a serious LCC hangover! I get it must be a bit scary / confronting all the change for them so I do take a breath and count to 5 when I encounter it....

I expect it has something to do with the licence rules for service of alcohol. There are likely different rules for internation vs domestic, probably vary state t state, and likely even different rules based on the size of the premisis.

Would it work for VA to contract out to a hotel group, like QF did with the First Lounges to Sofitel?

Palazzo Versace anyone?

I have never come across different regulations in relation to size of premisis. I simply believe it's a cost saving thing.

i.e. When the cost of having a bartender outweighs the perceived cost of 'slippage' then the bartender gets the chop.

Look at the availability of self service in LST, HBA, ROK, ASP etc.
