New Layout (bugs)

Now, does anyone recall how the board used to look? :).

I (as I knew would be the case) do not, and am completely at ease with the new look now.

I forgot immediately, but my memory is pretty atrocious. As LW’s signature still has some white text in it, the site must have been an off-white colour, presumably grey?

The internet archive has quite a few saved versions of the site. Looking back to 1998 is strange ;)

I've read the message that mobile mode is now working - haven't tried it yet. But Tapatalk has stopped working for me, does that mean that tapatalk had to be disabled to make mobile mode work?

Yes, we have disabled Tapatalk for the time being. As I said in my earlier post, Tapatalk does present a number of technical and commercial issues which we are still investigating. It was (and still is) being tested, and was never an "official" feature.

Now that Mobile Mode is working again, we do have a fully functional solution for mobile access.

I was on a different computer yesterday afternoon and again had the issue of an ad sitting over the 'keep me logged in' tick box. It took a few goes but I eventually tricked it into working normally.

In the early days of the release I commented about site speed. I find that is largely, though not totally resolved but have now worked out that ( on a survey of four computers) that Firefox is slower to open than IE. This is a nuisance as I avoid IE when ever possible.

FWIW I am finding that mobile mode is working very well on my iPhone.

Oops, just found a glitch! In mobile mode and using the edit function any previously edited text does not show up until after it has all been saved. (I'm not sure if that explanation makes sense)

No worries, fair enough. I heard about tapatalk on here but don't recall where, so obviously I missed your earlier post on the matter. Mainly asked as I wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong.

I might try mobile mode again but I pretty much hated it last time I tried it. Normally I use rss for mobile catching up, but that is useless for replying

What I really hate with the new layout is that in the community resources page the forums are listed as normal but the orange rss tag and the green tick to subscribe to a thread both sit over the text that describes the content of the forum, also the threads and post statistics are appearing right next to the description as well.
Also the "The Frequent Flyer Gazette" tab is too far right so that the white of the box overshadows the "F" in the FAQ tab which is next in the red bar.
Those issues make thw whole thing look messy IMO and far from professional.
I have tried using IE 6,7 and 8,Opera,Firefox,Google Chrome and Safari and I still have the same issues with placement of links etc.
Don't know that I can do anything about it,all my browers are set to default settings .

If a search returns more than 20 results there is an option near the "Page 1 of n" (indicated by a
black_downward_arrow.png
) to select a direct page to jump to.

Entering a page number here, even if in range, and clicking "Go" simply takes the user to the search page.:confused:

The problem seem to be the url:

It should be something like:

It would also appear as though the 'view first new post' in a thread option works again :)

I'm a (mainly) happy camper now that that's fixed.

Still getting used to the new visual aspect of the site, I still found the old one easier to use but i'll get used to it:)

...

It should be something like:

There is a bit of a workaround for this;

After doing a search (like "New Posts"), the results appear.

On the URL line one will see:
Simply click twice to the right of the URL text (Do not "Double Click") and type in &page=n where n is your desired page and hit [Enter].

I know it was just a trial, but I found Tapatalk to be a much better interface for mobile posting than the recently updated mobile interface mode. So I hope it comes back at some point, as it looked a whole lot better!

I’ll keep it on my iPhone, ever hoping that it makes a return to usefulness.

Yep, +++1 here, tapatalk is a great feature, after learning the app, I'm missing access to AFF from it already!

I just bought Tapatalk after the popup message showed when viewing the full site on my iPhone, which said that the forum was enabled for it. Turns out reading this thread that it isn't actually enabled? Waste of $4. AFF admins, if you're disabling Tapatalk access please also remove that popup too.

What are the chances of getting my four bucks back from Apple... minimal I reckon.

It has been re-enabled, hence why you saw the pop-up, and will probably be a feature kept into the future, but you needn’t have bought the app as there was a free version available, albeit with a few features missing, but enough to try it out.

As for refunds from Apple, if you have made a purchase in error, Apple can generally refund you, they aren’t quite as stingy as you think, but you’d need to call them up and explain.

And FYI, a few other members have Tapatalk and I was using it earlier today perfectly fine. It’s a much better user interface on the iPhone. Love it!

Hmm. I don't want to turn this into a Tapatalk support thread, but if you could quickly give me a lowdown as to how to find the forum in the app that'd be great - I'm searching for frequent flyer, flyer, aff etc and it's not showing up in the directory.

I really didn't want to make an announcement about Tapatalk just yet. But, you have forced my hand as I don't want our members to unnecessarily purchase or even download Tapatalk.

So...

This is an "unofficial" announcement of the coming release of our own AFF custom version of Tapatalk. Customisation is almost complete.

I expect our AFF app to be approved by Apple and available for download from iTunes by the middle of May. Will go into full details at a later time, but at this stage I can say that there will be no need for anyone to purchase anything from the App Store. Furthermore, our GOLD and SILVER members will get additional benefits (subject to final testing).

So please be patient on this one...

Good news :)

I have been using the mobile mode of AFF on the iPhone and it is ok - further enhancements will be great.

Thanks for the info, appreciated. I'll get in touch with the tapatalk dev's via Apple and see if I can get a refund given the circumstances. In the meantime, it would still be advisable for you remove the message about tapatalk that appears when viewing the site on the iPhone - it was a bit misleading.

You mean Mobile Mode? That’s good when I’m on 3G, but isn’t the nicest viewing experience ;)

I like using Tapatalk, so if the app released is somehow based off of Tapatalk that’ll be so good :D

Can’t wait for May!
