Might be an ie 6 issue - no choice here ... i'll check with FF when I get the chance.

(Would hate to have to upgrade from IE6 simply to view AFF :-|)

Just checked - and does appear to be an ie6 issue.

IE6 FTF*

*for the fail

Of course, for some of us in various IT environments beyond our control, we haven't a choice (not at work where I am - where we can choose whatever browser we like - but AFAIK the last time I was in our uni libraries they were still using IE6. Might've changed by now...)

I think it is only an IE6 issue.

No choice at work. Who knows if, and when, they will ever upgrade IE6.

The more one looks at this new version the more issues are found. I tried using the "Find all posts" option for a member and could only see 3 pages of posts. I think it was 20 posts per page. Need to check again later.

You may have stumbled on a bug there, I tried viewing all your posts and it initially showed 5 pages, when I clicked on the 4th page though I saw a few more, and again, and again. So the software doesn’t seem to display the correct number of pages, but will let you keep moving back further and further if you so wish.

Edit: I ended up getting to the 25th page and saw 496 posts, but none past that. I guess looking right back to the start might tax the servers a little? But I still can see just under 500 recent posts.

I only got 91 results myself.

Can you send an email to my boss so he take that into consideration at my next review? ;)

When I did it yesterday after the 2nd or 3rd page it would just repeat the same posts over and over. And some of the posts did not appear to be in time sequence.

Perhaps the new software needs to re-index everything and it’s not complete yet.

Probably just a default setting that admin could change if it was badly needed.

FWIW the old system only allowed one to view the last 500 posts written by someone, so even if you wanted to find JohnK's very first post, you couldn't do it.

Seeing as there are a few issues with the new layout, I think admin would appreciate being pointed to specific issues without a flood of messages in his PM box. :p

Issues I’ve seen:

  • Clicking on “go to last post” doesn’t take me to the last post as the post number is removed (eg. #postNUMBER)

From what I can see, clicking on 'go to first unread post' isn't working for threads that were opened before the upgrade occurred. I can happily click it to go to the first unread post on new threads. What it is doing, if the thread is multiple pages, is taking me to the top of the last page. If it's only one page, it'll just load up the page at the top (not with the first post at the top, rather the banner up the top).

As I tend to only use this 'latest unread' option, it's pretty frustrating. Is there any chance of getting a 'skin' similar to the old one back? the all-white is a little stark for my liking (I know it's cosmetic and some will say 'deal with it and get with the times' but if you don't ask you never know :))

*edit*
And posting this reply reminded me (I'm pretty sure someone else mentioned it) that when you reply and post it'll also just take you to the top of the last page of the thread, rather than to the post you just made.

*edit edit*
Is there any way to remove the 'tweets' thing from the left hand side? I don't have any interest in twitter so would be great if we could hide it (couldn't find it in a search/settings).

How do I get into mobile mode, the old version worked great on my Nokia E63 but it only shows PC mode now.

Now how do I go on AFF while i'm waiting for that ever elusive flight

I second the twitter thing. I see no need to have it there, if I wanted to see tweets I would go to twitter.

It’s a trial and was just added yesterday, so I would expect it for another few days before we work out it’s not needed, at least at this time.

There is a drop down option in the lower left of every page. Just remember, for now, when you go into Mobile Mode, you need to log out to get back to PC Mode.

Thanks for your comments, bugs, input, suggestions, compliments, and (of course), critique of the new format. We have spent the last week going through ALL your input. Where possible, we have changed what can (easily) be changed.

For the most part, the site operates well. I know there are some issues with older browsers and there are some User Interface bugs (as many of you have identified). Many of these bugs are well-documented in the vBulletin support forums and should be addressed by vBulletin in future releases of the software.

To address some of the specific issues raised:
* The Twitter Button which was on the left hand side of the screen.
It was put up as a replacement to Twitter feature on the old site, which doesn't work on the new site. The button is now gone. Some did like it, but the overwhelming feedback I got was negative. Will continue to look for a less-invasive twitter feature which users can opt out of.

* The style/colours of the new site.
Its impossible to please everone! The style was designed by a professional designer. It has had heaps of positive comments (plus some negative). We will keep it for the moment. Its technically impossible to go back to the old style. We may, in the future, provide an alternative style which better resembles the old style. Please bear in mind that significant effort goes into creating and maintaining each style.

* Mobile Mode
This should still be available to all GOLD and SILVER subscribers. (Let me know if you are GOLD or SILVER and can't access it.) There is a small issue with it on the new site - once in Mobile Mode, you can't select PC Mode. You have to log out and log in again. We are looking for a replacement which better suits the new version of the software. (Some of you have mentioned the iPhone skin - unfortunately, that skin is not yet available for this version of vBulletin)

Thanks again for your patience this last week. I have no doubt that, in time, all the bugs identified will be corrected. And this software, does have some great new features: the very useful (and user selectable) Righ Hand Panel, Blogs, .... and more to be released soon!!

Can I add a few?

1. I've lost the "view first unread" click at the top of the thread. I did see it a few days ago but it seems to have gone.

2. The view first unread small tab (after getting a list of new threads) seems to just take me to the top of the page (not the first unread reply).

3. A tab at the bottom to reply (without quote) would be useful - unless i want to reply with quote, i have to scroll to the top of the page.

4. mobile mode - browning on iphone, the thread title is too small with the thread originator's name too large. Makes it hard to click on the thread title (instead of users name). I note some issues with mobile mode for gold/silver. I also note i'm neither of these!

5. Ads - they are really skewing the pages - can it be adjusted so they are same width as the thread text (as previously)?

Congrats on the new look.

I'll repost if i can think of any more.

I have it now. Are you sure you don't. Look at image attached.

I am not (or have never been a silver or gold member), but I used to be able to access mobile mode on the old software, why not now?

That's odd, because AFAICT mobile mode was never available to anyone except Silver and Gold members.

The reason being that in mobile mode there are no advertisements, and the privilege of no ads on AFF is only extended to Silver and Gold members.

I could be wrong - never tried otherwise - but I would imagine that my perception has and will carry into the new version of the forum software.

It's a shame that there can't be a separate login page (which is greatly simplified) for mobile AFF, because logging in and then finding and selecting Mobile Mode from the drop down box using a mobile device can be very coughbersome and unnecessarily bandwidth draining.

I did this only once saving the direct link that enabled mobile mode on my iPhone and never logging out, so every time I clicked the link I was straight into mobile mode and already logged in. Presumably I could do the same now.

Not so much a bug, but could this be changed type question… when posting a link to another thread, you can label it what you want and afterwards the software will add a space and then in brackets the threads title, per this example:

link to this thread

However when I add some BB Code it puts the (thread title first)with no gap ;)

link to this thread

So it looks odd. Is there a fix?
