compensation for flight delay on BA - stuck in Bangkok due to volcanoe dust cloud

But there has to be a trade off between paying for hotels and flying an empty plane to BKK. A full plane load of pax wanting to get back to Oz and your paying $500 a night each for their hotel. It can't take too many nights before it becomes financially irresponsible not to send an empty plane to BKK.

The only ones that BA is required to pay for hotels for are those going to UK and they can't do anything about that. Those booked to do BKK-SYD are not covered by the EU Regulations

Yes that's right and a big number of those people travelling to the UK might be Australian resident and decide that they would rather go back to Oz than continue their journey. So BA paying for their hotels and they would rather get back to Oz. Especially given the vast number of Australians who were probably heading over for ANZAC day.
 
I really don't understand why BA hasn't done at least 1 return trip SYD - BKK as QF told me today their flights to BKK are full to Sunday.

Surely this means that running the plane wouldn't be a financial loss??

I just feel they've washed their hands of their passengers, and while they might be legally able to do it, it's certainly made me feel like a TT passenger witt he only flight of the day cancelled!

Certainly next time I will make sure I'm on a QF flight.
 
As Qantas is treating their FF redemption ticket holders like 3rd class citizens, it's unlikely Qantas would treat you any better if you were on their metal.

What is third class about their treatment?

Frequent Flyer Classic Award Passengers may:

  • Re-route travel via the most direct routing using Qantas. Award fees will not apply.
  • Return to the origin port via the most direct routing using Qantas. Award fees will not apply.
  • Refunds will be offered where travel has not commenced and Award Fees waived for tickets issued prior to 17 April 2010 for travel between 15 – 30 April 2010.
  • Where travel has commenced between 14 – 16 April, the Member is able to return to their original point of departure and have the points redeemed for the entire journey refunded to their account. All tax value will also be refunded.
