I do not believe the ATO looked like idiots. Perhaps the elected representatives in Parliament. They had no choice really, it was simply farcical! They looked like idiots. Well they still do.
A mate pointed out the next election is in 18 months' time....so wonder if the government will extend it again leading up to the electionI do not believe the ATO looked like idiots. Perhaps the elected representatives in Parliament.
Previously no ATO payments could be made by credit card where the ATO wore the cost of that payment. With the removal of surcharges the ATO had seemingly budgeted for a two month transition.
Now it looks likely the Taxpayer via the Government is going to ante up $200M to cost of such payments for 'up to' a year.
Yes the elected representatives is who I'm referring to. The ones saying how wonderful they are for this change.I do not believe the ATO looked by idiots. Perhaps the elected representatives.

They proposed something heinous like taxing unrealized gains and then ‘backtracked’ on that and the rest of their proposal sailed through as it wasn’t as bad …
Might this be the same playbook?
Yes, it had become politically untenable; such credibility as there was was being eroded by the day if not the hour, something had to give. And after all the fine words back and forth in the past week it looks like it’s the taxpayers who’ll be doing so.Now official - extended another 7 months ...

The government made a rod for their own back with the credit card changes. Now they have to deal with the consequences.So... more government spending right? Someone's has to cover the cost
