SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Quick quiz - re CE's comment above about using the call button : Who has pressed a call button in the last year, or 5/10 years, or whenever?

I cant remember the last time..
On SQ in particular? (as in SQ is so good you don’t need to use the button) - or airlines more generally?

On SQ i’ve only needed it when waking up and wanting a coffee. But otherwise a lot can depend on the various airlines and their policies - CX for example will completely leave you alone and you need to use the button for assistance.

I found with the JAL Business Skysuite they leave you alone (especially if the door is closed), but do a call (or order something¹ using the IFE menu) and they are there in a flash with a smile ...

¹Such as a champers top up;)

Usually once or twice per flight, but not during meal services.

The kids press it probably 5 times or so per flight for more snacks, chocolate or juice. They know not to press during meal times though, unless it's meal related

Quite often, as mentioned above, when waking up and needing more liquid or sustenance.

I do like to walk as much as possible during the flight (and don't sleep well) so often make the excuse to ask for more water while stretching my legs. The crew are usually happy to chat if not busy.

I booked a trip to KUL with fairly late notice to go to the F1 so my flight/CoS choices were limited.

So just to balance some of the J/F content I have just got off a 7 hr SIN-MEL flight in Y. It was actually quite bearable. However I chose not to photograph my VGML bean curd in sauce with cous-cous meal. 🤔 😉
Nothing wrong with SQ’s economy cabin imo, beats most economy cabins flying to Asia. At least the 777s are still 9-abreast!

I’ve just done a TR flight SYD-SIN and it was uncomfortable at best, but that’s offset by the $600 less return compared to SQ. Paid for some nice coughtails overlooking the Padang and a great chicken rice dinner :)

I was going to fly Scoot SIN-MEL as I couldn't get J seats on redemption at the end of Jan...

SQ wanted $1,700 in Y EACH
TR was $500 but went up to about $800 when I went to book, plus extra bags etc would have been closer to $1,000 each
Managed to get TK for $450 each which was great, sadly via SYD with a stopover and then a domestic VA flight in J, but all up was $2,700, so a $1,300 saving for a stopover in Sydney for the night.

We're hoping to try out SQ's PE next year, not enough points (or availability) for 4 J seats this time around.
