How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Property: Sofitel Adelaide
Status: Explorer+ Diamond
Room booked: Superior room, 1 king
Room upgraded/type: Yes, Deluxe room, corner, high floor
Early check in/late out: Yes. Asked for 4pm, 2 pm granted.
Welcome drink: Yes, but not used (or even looked at)
Welcome amenity: Bottle of wine ($20-$27), hand written card and bowl of fruit
Recommend: Yes

My first time here and very impressed. Got pre arrival WhatsApp and e-mail from guest services welcoming me as Diamond (a first for me!) and asking what can be done etc. Re-iterated my room preferences which I found honoured on check-in. Check-in took a while, but it was a trainee. Got a bit of paper with lounge and bar info, which was good. Check out also took some time with the same trainee, but no problem.

The room very good, everything worked. Only issue was that it was north-facing and was very hot on late afternoon arrival on a sunny winters day. I asked for sheet to be sent up (to sub for doona) and this arrived promptly. The aircon didn't get things properly cool when I went to bed after 10, so the sheet came in handy. Curtains a good black-out standard.

There was a noisy 'alley-pub' seemingly right below my north-east corner (room 2011), but I was high enough for it not to be audible unless you listened hard. But lower down it it might be a problem. Floor plan below.

Was there for a Sat night, and went to the lounge around 5pm; it was uncrowded and the service was excellent. Had a number of drinks with several other AFFers staying and group drinks were proactively enquired about, and delivered. Didn't look too closely at the food range, but it seemed OK for lounge fare, not dinner substitute. Probably the best Sofitel lounge experience I've had in a while.

Very happy with the stay and will be back in late October for the AFF do.

I will be there the weekend after this coming one.
Have booked the deluxe room so let's see where they put me.
Will definitely ask for a sheet - and not to be on your corner if possible!

Air con must be faulty...can you imagine in summer?!

Air con must be faulty...can you imagine in summer?!

Perhaps it was. Sitting on the bed, I could feel cool coming out, but it was hardly strong. You can see the vent on the 3rd pic (1 of 2).

I forgot to mention - when checking out, I asked if they had a hotel profile - no, not really (trainee), but would ask. I asked if so, that the aircon for my next stay be put on prior to my arrival. More experienced guy leaned over and he thought that wasn't possible, as the aircon is 'enabled' upon check-in. Maybe @jase05 knows?

It should be possible.
When I stay at the Novotel in Perth they usually put a room key card in the slot in my room before I check in so the aircon has been working and the room is pleasant when I arrive.

Property: Movenpick Melbourne
Status: Explorer+ Diamond
Room booked: Classic King x3
Room upgraded/type: Yes, Superior King x3
Rate: Accor+ 15% off advance saver x1, Explore Melbourne x2
Early check in/late out: Neither required but proactively offered 3pm whilst checking in
Free internet: Yes
Free breakfast: Yes
Welcome drink: Yes in app and used for beer and wine (offered for all 3 rooms)
Welcome amenity: Bottle of wine, chocolates and note in all rooms
Recommend: Yes, absolutely

Booked a 3 night stay for the football with 2 other couples and as both games were at Marvel it made sense to book the Mövenpick due to its great location and being a good hotel IMO.
Our friends were arriving Friday mid rover but we had to work and wouldn’t be there to late Friday night so emailed the property before booking and they confirmed that our guests could check in before us. A few days before the stay the hotel emailed us to see if that was still the plan and if so could we provide their names so as to provide a better room and check in experience. Was also offered a suite upgrade for us only but told the hotel was busy and we could take that or they could upgrade all 3 rooms to Superiors and all located next to each other. Unselfishly I chose the later and it worked out well.
Our friends arrived and checked in no hassles but sent us text shortly after thinking they had mixed up the rooms as they had a big plate of chocolates and a bottle of wine but I told them to check the note and the handwritten note was addressed to all guests individually which I thought was a great gesture especially as they aren’t Accor regulars.
We booked the 15% off rate and as they had no status I booked them the Escape Melbourne package which came with breakfast and $50 daily credit per room. The girls used the daily credit for a few coughtails at the bar and all 3 rooms received the 2 welcome drinks in app.
Breakfast was decent enough especially the bacon but on the second day the staff member tried to charge for barista coffee but the manager saw proceedings and intervened. Breakfast was really busy on Sunday and we did go down a bit later and there was a line up with about a 10-15 minute wait for table but once we provided the room numbers the attendant mentioned Diamond status and suddenly a table magically appeared immediately which obviously caused a few looks from some waiting.
Had a late dinner at Miss Mi one night and excellent as always.
Girls enjoyed the chocolate hour whilst us boys went over to the Mail Exchange for a punt and a few beers.
Pool and spa on Sunday and Monday was great to nurse a hangover.
Very good weekend

Property: Mercure Sydney Liverpool
Status: Explorer+ Gold
Room booked: Superior Room 1 King Bed and Spa
Room upgraded/type: No, emailed asking for upgrade or quiet room but email was ignored. My room is also next to the elevator which is not ideal.
Early check in/late out: Not needed not offered.
Welcome drink: Not mentioned at check-in.
Welcome amenity: One small container that usually contains 3 snack bars, however only has 2. No note, no drink.
Recommend: Maybe.

This stay represents my final stay on Gold, i'll hit platinum after this trip!
I feel no benefit to my loyalty at all at this hotel. No mention of my status, no offer of welcome drinks, I feel I have a poor choice of my room class having the one right next to the elevator, and a $5ish snack in the room as a welcome gift. As a frequent work traveler (4 nights a week, 3 weeks a month at this rate) I just value a quiet room.
Wrapping up my stay here, I have to stay the room next to the elevator is not recommended.
Objectively this is one of the nicer Mercure's I've stayed at in Sydney (I've been to most, if not all of them at this point), but absolutely pointless having loyalty here in my experience or asking for any sort of preference prior to your stay.

Ask for quiet room, yet placed next to elevator, the antitheses of quiet (you can hear everytime the elevator beeps, which as you can imagine is a lot around 6-6:30am an hour before I need to wake up).
Mercifully there is a an very average espresso station downstairs in the lobby given the distance from any local cafes etc.

As always a good stay, prices are creeping up but still good value for Tokyo. On the train from Narita I was browsing the net and discovered Ottorii station was known previously for being the station Sega employees used going to their HQ. Intrigued I did a bit of research to see if the HQ still existed, it doesn’t. The three buildings were demolished, one of which is now a hotel, the Mercure Haneda, lol.

The hotel has limited dining options beyond breakfast but you don’t have to go far for a good feed. I ended up at juicy burger at the top of the block as well as making a few trips to the konbini’s across the road. No visit this time to the Tonkatsu across the road but it’s another good option. Folk who say the hotels location offers little in the way of eating options are not looking hard!

Caught the 0500 shuttle bus to Haneda, quick trip to an empty airport and was at the front entrance of the JAL F lounge for its 0530 opening, breakfast ramen time.

Beautiful. I'll be trying this hotel out in a couple of weeks myself. Seems like a good pick

Property: South Palms Resort & Spa Panglao - MGallery Collection

Room booked: Superior Room - 1 King Bed, Nature View

Room upgraded/type: Yes - Deluxe Room, 1 King Bed, Pool Access, Nature View

Rate: Fully flexible - UNLOCK LUXURY - 25% off - Book before June 30th 2026

Free internet: Yes

Welcome drink: Yes
Received the hotels signature drink upon arrival along with a fragranced cold towel.
App welcome drinks - Consist of the standards + selection of coughtails, Bottled water in room that is replenished daily

Welcome Amenity: Yes - plate of sweets and basket of fruit.

Early check in/late out: In - didn't need as flight from Manila arrived late afternoon. Out - Offered but didn't need

VIP treatment: I felt like a VIP across the hotel, staff were welcoming and were happy to assist. I think it is a standard level for the hotel. You walk up to reception and they off you a cold drink, don't feel like walking to or from your room to the pool or restaurant they are happy to pick you up in one of the hotels golf carts.

Access to executive lounge (if existing): N/A

General comments: Fab new hotel on Panglao Island, Bohol in the Philippines. Staff were really great, the bar has a happy hour with 1/2 price drinks & coughtails (they are higher than if you went to a bar outside of the hotel but still quite cheap compared to home) But being able to sit on the beach, under the palm trees and be waited on while sipping on a coughtail is worth the extra couple of $$.
I didn't use the main pool as my upgraded room had it's own pool (shared with 4/5 rooms in the block), I never heard or saw anyone else using it.

There are two restaurants onsite, one international & the other more regional cuisine + the bar that you can order food from either venue. Breakfast is buffet with a large selection of local & international options once again overlooking the gorgeous beach. Accor + Explorer dining discount is available at all venues on site.

Guests have the opportunity to take a tour of South Farm which is the hotels farm where they source some of their food. You need to prebook this and is complimentary for hotel guests. It was worth a visit but felt more like a petting zoo/informative agricultural venue.

I have stayed there a few times as an ALL Plat recently. Did they not advise the mini bar drinks were complimentary?

First time I've stayed here since the renovations. A rare weekend away for Mrs MattA and I sans children (in town to see popular beat combo Gang of Youths at the Opera House), so thought we'd stay somewhere we wouldn't normally pick when travelling as a family (as far as I know, we'd need two rooms here to accommodate a family of four, so we usually go elsewhere when it's all of us).

Generally I think they've done a good job of the facelift, although the bank of self check-in machines downstairs don't exactly scream five star luxury to me. I know as an elite you can check in at the lounge, but still.

As it was, we were quite a late arrival (flight delay on Friday evening meant we went straight to our dinner booking and didn't reach the hotel until well after 11pm) so we just went to the ground floor desk anyway. Also on that subject, given our late arrival, earlier on I thought I'd better just call the hotel to update our arrival time in case they treated us as a no show -- once I'd battled through the automated chat bot to get put through to reception, I was left listening to a phone ringing for almost five minutes before someone picked up. Not a great start.

But thankfully there was still a room waiting for us. Looks like a one category upgrade on what I had booked. Very pleasant and everything still looks nice and new.

Breakfast in Club Millésime on the Saturday morning was an absolute zoo -- staff just couldn't keep up and half of the time there were no plates, cutlery, glasses etc. Barista coffees available to order but we probably waited at least 20 minutes for them to arrive. Sunday morning was much quieter and more pleasant.

Welcome gift of a bottle of wine and some choccies, presented with no note and just a single wine glass, which is an interesting choice. A glass for me and the bottle for Mrs MattA, presumably?

Property: Swissotel Sydney

Room booked: Swiss exeutive King Room, Lounge Access high florr
Room upgraded/type: No and said nothing available which app conflicts with
Early check in/late out: Didnt ask
Welcome drink: In app
Welcome amenity: Nothing - said they are too busy when I asked when following for pillows
Recommend: No and in fact have cancelled all future bookings for Kimpton

I decided to give the Swissotel another try. I've been avoiding it because of lift issues and slipping customer service.

Unfortunately, nothing fabulous to report. I booked at the last minute and took the highest room available, excluding a Suite. At check-in, I was told there were no upgrades, despite the app showing a Suite available.

Check-in gave no information about lunch, and when I got to the room, there were no amenities. I asked about extra pillows (must be a shortage, as this is not something they normally drop the ball on) and was told they were too busy to put the amenities out.

The bathroom was a shambles, and the q-tips and shower cap were just thrown in a pile on the shelf below.

I've been having a fabulous run at the Kimpton and Porterhouse, so this will be the last time here for me. I get the impression they are focused on their US tour guests and the conferences held here rather than recognising loyalty (I have stayed here a LOT)

It's a shame because the location is good, even if the rooms are a bit tired

That's a shame about Swissotel. I would've liked to try the afternoon tea there.

This was a 12 night stay ! Which I would’ve preferred a unit at Peppers, the earn rate is cough, and this stay I retain Diamond. 6811 status points earned for the stay.
As booked for work, only 1 guest so 1 free drink voucher.
I was here 2 weeks before and I spoke to the manager about a parking discount, and told him I was considering changing my booking to Peppers. I was comped parking,
Place was extremely busy.
Was so happy to leave after 12 nights, felt like being back in their covid hotel 😜IMG_2393.jpegIMG_2392.jpeg

Status: Explorer+ Diamond
Room booked: Superior room, 1 king, stay plus
Room upgraded/type: Yes, luxury corner room
Early check in/late out: Yes. Granted a 2pm checkout but didn’t need it
Welcome drink: Yes, but better offerings in the lounge.
Welcome amenity: yes red and macaroons

After 12 nights at the Sofitel Broadbeach, finished work, drove back to Brisbane and hopped on a plane to Melbourne.
Haven’t stayed in Melbourne in years and used a stay plus night for the weekend.
Omg, this place is what I consider a Sofitel. A proper lounge with views and proper 5 star rooms.
We were upgraded to a lovely corner room, my only gripes were the shower over bath and hot water. It as hot as I like.
As we arrived just before 5pm, we headed straight to the lounge for a beverage.
Sitting by the fire and views across Melbourne, the lounge was busy but plenty of staff on. The food offerings were nice and regularly refilled.
We had breakfast in the lounge both mornings and loved it.
Saturday night before we headed out, we headed to the lounge right on 5pm ( as per their email and flyer which states lounge times ) hoping to get a good seat. When we arrived, there was a sign which pointed out the 2 time slots for lounge, 4;30-6 and 6:30-8pm ( think it was 8 )
Wasn’t happy about not being notified about this, and when questioned, was told I should check my emails. They did find us a seat, we only stayed for a short period.
I raised this up with the check-in desk on our out, and received a call from the. Manager on Sunday after we checked out, apologies and gave me 2000 points and a promise in writing of a room upgrade on our next stay.
us Qlders miss on on real Sofitels, as nothing comes close to Melbourne.

I stayed on a Saturday night in recent months, got the email, and chose the 4:30pm sitting, but that's pretty poor form. If they want to have two sittings on a Saturday night, they need to be mentioning this at check-in as well. Agree with everything in your review. I love this hotel and lounge, although I've only stayed once. I'd love to stay again, but every time I check the prices, they're through the roof.

Did you query them on this?
I did, and she said no nothing available
