Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Shouldn’t have to dance around like that. If you are forking out for an international business class fare (yes even NZ being international), and they offered cheese and crackers, it should be a couple of bits of cheese presented on a plate with some crackers and maybe accompaniments.

If they’re too cheap to do that, then just unwrap the cheese and crackers FGS.

What’s the picture show is essentially what Virgin gives on business domestic.

But it’s not designed as a standalone course. It really is just a cheese and cracker to finish off your wine after the meal, or for something savoury after dessert (depending on whether you’re from the UK or the continent). In the context of the whole meal for a sub-three hour flight I think it’s an enhancement over domestic catering?

Still there! Cheese and ham toasties even in PEY last week DFW-SYD :) Also available a vegetarian cold sarnie.
Oh I didn’t think to ask what’s on the PEY menu for snacks! Sometimes you do just want a simple ham and cheese toastie over some sandwich that I need to Google the ingredients.

Qantas hasn't served proper International mels on the trams Tasmans since post pandemic. Not excusing them, I think it's appalling.

But for what it's worth, Virgin always had Domestic catering on those routes and Qantas at least still serves proper champagne. So still win for Qantas and if that's the competition, it's no surprise they do not see a need to change things.

WHAT??? So there still there in premium economy but not in First?

There were no hot snacks en route at all DFW-SYD just a few weeks ago on my flight in First. And I had asked even. That's very odd.

Lemongrass chicken with egg fried rice. Also had a spicy Italian tomato sauce on the side. Weird flavour combo

As per sudoer’s pictures above, you get a reasonable salad for entree, bread and butter, main, dessert, and cheese and crackers. Compare with VA just a hot dish and maybe a bread roll now? I think QF’s offerings are above those of Cathay et al on flights of similar duration.

I'm flying SYD-SCL this week. Am I right that on that route there are no more substantial midflight snacks (ie toasted sandwiches etc)?

The last menus I saw posted didn't seem to have them. I had always vaguely assumed it would be treated the same as the North American routes?

Agree - its an after-dinner or finish-dinner thing (often offered as an option against a sweet dessert). Many airlines do it. Its just how cheaply its done and/or how well presented. A couple of crackers and a bit of cheese in vacuum sealed plastic I don't think cuts it for international business class, even Trans-Tasman. Just unwrap them, even.

Like I said, Virgin gives you cheese and crackers in sealed container thing on the side in domestic business. If that's what Qantas international aspires to match, I guess they have done it.

The mid-flight snack is a choice of pulled pork toastie or an antipasti - along with all the other snacks at the bar (chips, fruit etc). These snacks are the same for nearly all flights ex Australia of similar length (LAX/DFW/SFO/YVR).

I personally don’t want it unwrapped! For such a short flight I’ll take it home with me if I don’t eat it. Makes for a yummy midnight snack :) I’d rather have it on the tray than leave it off.

QF TT J service has been a hybrid Dom J with proper bubbles for as long as I can remember (decades).

It used to be particularly noticeable when QF to EZE would bounce through AKL. I assume the current JFK service is probably similarly quite different?

Brings back memories, 747 akl to eze a CR Y award as a 20 something, a mere SG but when it meant something, and I got op-upd to J. Pre lie flat, but bliss. Asked about future Mrs D who I was travelling with but wasn't booked with from Aus, and she appeared next to me on boarding.. Travel has been somewhat downhill since I feel.

A choice of one for breakfast, which was a cheese and mushroom omelette served with roma tomatoes and chopped spinach. Served with a tub of Ruby & Roy's Greek-style honey cinnamon yoghurt. Coffee and tea were available along with soft drinks, orange juice and mini bottles of sparkling white.

The omelette was fine, though given it was baked, then chilled, then reheated, it was naturally not moist nor fluffy (almost approaching the texture of those mass produced omelette discs you get on cheap hotel reception buffets in the USA). The flavour is OK, especially when moderated out with the tomato and - somewhat - the spinach. The yoghurt is sweet and a bit thinner in consistency than I'm used to for most Greek yoghurts (I wonder which consistency is actually more authentic).

CSM Ella gave off a bit of a vibe that she wasn't too pleased to draw the short straw in having to service an early morning flight on a Sunday, but she wasn't rude or aloof. It was an efficient service and she did offer further drinks before we had to start preparing for landing.
